German Air Force Opens New Coordination Center to Better Lead Partners
After organizing and leading “Air Defender 2023” exercises, the Bundeswehr decided to create a new control center in North-Rhine Westphalia to better coordinate and lead partners of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
To this end, the German Air Force has upgraded the Air Operations Center at Kalkar-Uedem on the Lower Rhine, transforming it into an Air Component Command (acc), which officially opened today.
Exercises: Under Germany’s command and initiative, “Air Defender 2023” tested the mobility processes and coordination of 250 allied aircraft and 10,000 personnel from 25 countries.
“Air Defender,” the largest air force deployment exercise, showed that it took some time before we were able to guide our partners’ aircraft. We are now changing that with the acc. We can now also fly a large number of aircraft from a standing start. A crucial point for our national and alliance defense.
