Donald Trump Wants a Nuclear Peace Agreement With Iran
United States President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he is seeking a Verified Nuclear Peace Agreement with Iran that will prevent the country from developing a nuclear weapon but will allow Iran to “grow and prosper.”
Maximum pressure: On Tuesday, President Trump reimposed his “maximum pressure” campaign on Iran. This attempts to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons by imposing “maximum economic pressure,” such as imposing sanctions on oil. The Treasury and State departments have been ordered to drive “Iran’s oil exports to zero.”
While signing the memorandum, President Trump said this order is one that he is “torn about” and that he “is not happy to do it.” He added that it is “very tough on Iran” and “hopefully we are not going to have to use it.”
Nuclear deal: Later, President Trump wrote on Truth Social:
I want Iran to be a great and successful country, but one that cannot have a nuclear weapon. Reports that the United States, working in conjunction with Israel, is going to blow Iran into smithereens, are greatly exaggerated. I would much prefer a Verified Nuclear Peace Agreement, which will let Iran peacefully grow and prosper. We should start working on it immediately, and have a big Middle East celebration when it is signed and completed. God bless the Middle East!
The president has not elaborated on what this nuclear peace agreement would entail, but both America and Iran have said they are open to negotiations.
Peace without war? In his inaugural speech, President Trump said, “We will measure our success not only by the battles we win but also by the wars that we end, and perhaps most importantly, the wars we never get into.”
However, as Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry wrote in the latest Trumpet issue, “Sometimes you must fight—or else be taken captive or destroyed by evil people! … Mr. Trump does not want a war—but sometimes you can’t avoid it!”
Negotiating with Iran, the largest state sponsor of terrorism, will not bring peace to the Middle East. History has proved this.
After President Trump pressured Israel into signing the hostage deal with Hamas, U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn (Ret.) warned the president:
[T]he U.S. should never negotiate with terrorists or nation state sponsors of terrorism. This is what you get. More war and more bloodshed. Israel will survive, but the people along with the State of Israel will suffer severe consequences.
Discussions have yet to take place between America and Iran, but if they do, it will not bode well for Israel, America or even Iran in the long term.
