Syria’s New Leader Visits Saudi Arabia
Ahmed al-Sharaa, Syria’s new self-proclaimed president, visited Saudi Arabia for his first trip abroad on Sunday. Later that day, he met with Saudi Arabia’s de facto leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Crown Prince Mohammed had the Saudi flag fly along with the new three-starred Syrian flag, replacing the old two-starred flag that flew under President Bashar Assad.

Sharaa said he discussed cooperation in “all areas, especially humanitarian and economic,” with Crown Prince Mohammed. Sharaa claimed he had “sensed and heard a genuine desire” for the Saudi government to work with Syria. He told al-Arabiya:
Saudi Arabia has a major role in Syria’s future, and I take pride in everything it has done for us.
What this means: Sharaa heads Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (hts), a former al Qaeda affiliate designated as a terrorist group by the United States, European Union and others. After Assad’s ouster, it was unclear if the rest of the world would embrace the new hts-led government.
Saudi Arabia’s embrace of Sharaa shows the new Syria is becoming mainstream. More than that, it shows Sharaa’s desire to decouple Syria from its traditional relationship with Iran and align with Iran’s enemies.
The choice of Saudi Arabia for Mr. al-Sharaa’s first trip abroad was seen as a reflection of Syria’s shifting political alignments under the country’s new leadership: away from Iran, which was a key ally to the Assad regime, and toward the Gulf.

What the Trumpet said: A prophecy in Psalm 83 lists Syria under its ancestral name (Hagarenes) as allied with Germany (Assur) and Saudi Arabia (the Ishmaelites). Under Assad, Syria was an enemy of both Saudi Arabia and Europe.
Another prophecy in Daniel 11, describing Germany under the prophetic name “king of the north,” shows Germany and its allies will clash with Iran. Because of this, Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has expected a split between Iran and Syria.
But a key nation currently allied with Iran is not mentioned here: Syria. Why? Because of Psalm 83, we know that Syria will be allied with Germany after the attack on Iran. But I believe this momentous shift will almost certainly take place before Daniel 11:40 is fulfilled. This means we could see it happen very soon.

This is now happening. Saudi Arabia is embracing the new Syria at the expense of Iran. Watch for Germany to also become a key ally.
