Who Was Behind the Nord Stream Pipeline Sabotage?
A collaboration of businessmen and Ukrainian military officers independently decided to blow up parts of the Nord Stream pipeline in 2022, according to an August 14 Wall Street Journal report that is based on unnamed sources.
For two years, people speculated about who was responsible for the attack. The United States? Ukraine? Even Russia? But according to unnamed individuals quoted in the report who claim to be Ukrainian officers, it came down to a team of six people, mainly experienced deep-sea divers, on a rented yacht. They spent approximately $300,000.
“I always laugh when I read media speculation about some huge operation involving secret services, submarines, drones and satellites,” said one individual. “The whole thing was born out of a night of heavy boozing and the iron determination of a handful of people who had the guts to risk their lives for their country.”
Approved: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy initally gave his verbal stamp of approval to the plan. But then he retracted his approval after the cia found out about the plan and pressured him to cancel it, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Unnamed individuals in the report said Gen. Valerii Zaluzhniy, head of the operation, decided to go ahead with the plan anyway. But Zaluzhniy denies all involvement.
Ukraine’s incursions: More recently, Ukraine invaded Russia’s Kursk Region and took control of one of Russia’s main gas transit hubs. So far, Ukraine has not shut down shipments through this hub, but it could potentially do so at any time.
Many European nations, including Germany, still depend on gas from Russia. Disruptions in gas trade, or even threats of it, could cause Germany, which leads Europe and is reliant on gas imports, to move away from Ukraine and cooperate with Russia more publicly.
Secret deal: Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has stressed that Russia and Germany have already made a deal. “These two nations are working to empower themselves and each other … and build themselves into great empires!” he wrote.
