Russia’s Oil Exports to India Hit Record High

In March, Russian oil companies increased exports to India by 4.6 times compared to March 2022, reaching a record high of 2.2 million barrels per day, according to ship-tracking data published by Kpler on April 10. Russia is now the largest oil supplier to India for the sixth consecutive month, ousting Iraq from first place. The oil imports enable India to export refined products competitively to Europe and benefit from a bigger market share.

Sanctions from the West: After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Western sanctions caused a shift in the major buyers of Russian oil. In March 2022, the United States and Britain announced a complete rejection of Russian oil. In December, an embargo on Russian crude oil imports to the European Union and a price ceiling of $60 per barrel came into force. As a result, Russia had to redirect supplies for Europe to unrestricted markets such as India.

India relies on foreign imports for 85 percent of its crude oil. The West’s sanctions mean India has been buying Russian oil at a steep discount. By buying more and more oil and refining it into fuel for Europe and the U.S., India is playing an increasingly important role in global oil markets while providing Russia with continued demand for its oil exports.

The Trumpet says: While India currently maintains close ties with both the West and Russia, prophecy indicates it will soon shift to fully ally with Russia. In his article “Asia Still Stands With Putin,” Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry explained that India, together with China, will continue to increase its ties with Russia.

Analysts are going to be surprised at how much India will come to support Putin and how closely it will ally with Russia and China. It already has important links to Russia (from which it imports an estimated 60 to 85 percent of its military equipment), but in the near future, these links are going to multiply beyond belief.
