DHS Secretary Mayorkas Facing Impeachment
Texas Rep. Pat Fallon officially filed impeachment articles against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on January 10. This is the first major action by Republicans to hold specific members of the Biden administration responsible for dereliction of duty. Fallon says Mayorkas’s “willful actions have eroded our immigration system, undermined border patrol morale, and jeopardized American national security. He has violated the law and it is time for him to go.” The facts certainly back this up.
- Illegal border crossings reached an all-time high of 2.3 million in 2022.
- Mayorkas “publicly and falsely slandered” border agents of whipping Haitian migrants in 2021.
- Through it all, Mayorkas falsely testified that the southern border was secure.
According to Fallon, this was “in violation of his constitutional oath” as Mayorkas “willfully provided perjurious, false and misleading testimony to Congress.”
Drain the swamp: With Republicans in control of the House, they are in a strong position to clear out the corruption in Washington. New House Speaker Kevin McCarthy secured his position by providing guarantees that this would be a priority. Mayorkas could be the first to fall. Investigations into the real origins of January 6, government collusion with Big Tech, and Hunter Biden are all looming large. Mayorkas says he has no plans to resign, but with the evidence against him, he might not have a choice.
