Why You Need to Watch This Summit

Here in the United Kingdom, we’re bombarded with wall-to-wall coverage of the cop26 climate summit in Glasgow. It is, we are assured, one of the most important moments in the history of mankind. It is, according to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, “one minute to midnight.” Prince Charles believes the world needs to be on a “war-like footing”—the start of a “vast military-style campaign to marshal the strength of the global private sector with trillions at its disposal.” If this summit fails, we’re told the world will fall into climate catastrophe.

In one sense, it is not good for me to be watching news of this summit. Seeing world leaders and billionaires travel thousands of miles in 400 private jets to lecture the little people on taking care of the environment makes my blood boil. They’re actively working to make flying, eating meat and driving unaffordable luxuries—all while enjoying those same luxuries to the full. Over the last five years, the royal family has taken enough flights to get to the moon and back. Just last Friday, Jeff Bezos took a helicopter to Bill Gates’s birthday bash on a £2 million-a-week super yacht. But they’re happy to lecture and tax us into using these things less.

The public are welcome to attend the summit too—if you’ve got your vaccine passport. But the leaders and businessmen are exempt. Once again, rules are for the little people.

But there is a critical agenda at work here. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping stayed away from the summit. They’re happy to keep burning coal and are in no hurry to destroy their economies. China is by far the world’s largest polluter, contributing nearly a third of the world’s greenhouse gases.

But the focus at the summit is on Britain and America in particular. Their top politicians and businessmen fill the audience.

The attendee who most caught my eye is former U.S. President Barack Obama. “It’s an extremely unusual appearance by a former president at a world leaders event,” noted cnn. Former Obama adviser Joe Podesta said his ex-boss “has a global following” and wants to use that following to boost the conference. He won’t arrive until November 8, so as not to overshadow Joe Biden.

Why such a big deal about this conference? It’s clear many don’t actually care about the environment—or else they wouldn’t be jetting all over the world themselves.

The cop26 summit is the successor to the Paris climate summit and the Paris Agreement. Mr. Obama played a key role in the summit and America’s participation in it, and now he’s back.

“Everyone should want a clean environment and for everything to function properly,” Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry wrote in 2017—after President Donald Trump pulled out of that agreement. “We should be good stewards of this beautiful planet. But the Paris Agreement was not about that.”

“What is happening here is not about the environment,” he continued. “It is about destroying the United States. The regulations this accord binds America to abide by, and the funding it obligates America to provide, accomplish that purpose very nicely.”

With Joe Biden in the White House, Barack Obama is back in power. And he’s pushing for an even more destructive agreement.

“Why would scientists deceive the public on this topic?” asked Mr. Flurry. “Well, if you see who is really behind it, you understand that the real issue here is control.

“The weaker America is, the more vulnerable it becomes to being controlled. That is exactly what the radical left wants. It is using the issue of the environment in order to get it. The Obama administration didn’t want to get climate change under control; it wanted to get America under its control!”

How much do we see this demonstrated in our governments’ responses to covid-19? But there is a crucial part of this summit that even the best news media don’t see.

“Efforts to reverse climate change may look like they spring from good intentions, but there is an evil spirit behind it,” Mr. Flurry wrote. “It is all tainted by deceit, intimidation, bullying and autocratic tendencies. This is exactly the way a great evil spirit thinks! He wants control and will use any means he can to get it.”

This has probably been the top story we’ve emphasized at the Trumpet in recent years: the attempt to blot out Britain and America. That’s why you need to watch the cop26 summit. That attempt will be on full display over the next week. Many of the proposals won’t make much sense if their goal is to combat climate change. But they will work to bring down Britain and America.

To understand what is going on at this summit, you need to read Mr. Flurry’s article “What the Paris Climate Agreement Was Really About.” It will fully explain the spiritual dimension behind this attack on Britain and America.

And it will also help you (and me) with the frustration that naturally comes from watching this summit. It is sad to see people bring your country down, but by showing how this effort ties in with God’s plan for Britain and America, the article provides real hope for the future.
