Impeachment Proceedings Have Deeply Damaged America
On February 5, the Senate acquitted President Trump of two articles of impeachment. On abuse of power, 47 Democratic-aligned senators and Utah Senator Mitt Romney voted that Mr. Trump was guilty, while the rest of the Senate found him innocent. On obstruction of Congress, all Democratic-aligned senators found Mr. Trump guilty, and all Republican senators found him innocent.
The impeachment process was marred by calling on false witnesses, relying on hearsay, and other disregard for due process. Democrats have brought the standards for impeachment to a historic low and damaged people’s trust in federal law enforcement. This is underlined by the fact that President Trump’s job approval ratings rose 10 percent throughout the impeachment proceedings began. According to Gallup, 49 percent of Americans approve of Mr. Trump’s job performance, the highest percentage since he took office.
“Americans no longer trust the world’s premier law enforcement agency because of men like James Comey, Andrew McCabe and Peter Strzok, and women like Lisa Page,” wrote Federalist contributor Margot Cleveland in “How Democrats’ Get-Trump Crusade Has Irreparably Damaged the Nation.” They no longer believe in equal justice under the law, or the integrity of sworn affidavits and judicially authorized surveillance.”
When people lose faith in government institutions, they tend to take matters into their own hands. Leftists join radical groups like Antifa and the Democratic Socialists of America, which want to replace, rewrite or ignore the U.S. Constitution. Those afraid of socialism buy guns, and in some cases join militias, in an attempt to defend themselves.
Tensions are building, but protests and armed resistance are not real solutions. Government corruption and declining trust in its institutions are symptoms of a greater sickness in the nation. The Prophet Isaiah wrote about the spiritual sickness that besets a nation that turns away from God. More and more Americans are realizing that the government is sick (Isaiah 1:4-7), but too few are willing to consider that the reason for these problems is the sin of the people.
Report: British police were told to ignore Pakistani rape gangs
Police in Manchester, England, were told to investigate other ethnicities but to ignore rapists who were Pakistani. The shocking news was revealed on January 14 in a report published by the Greater Manchester Police. The report was commissioned two years ago to investigate why the department failed to stop rings of men who raped young teenage girls, some of them still children, for years. Although several officials did not cooperate and relevant files were withheld, the authors of the report discovered shocking betrayal of Manchester’s girls by its police.
Victoria Agoglia was repeatedly raped and abused for years until one of her abusers injected her with a lethal dose of heroin and she died at age 15. This prompted police to launch Operation Augusta, during which they knew that up to 16 girls who were lower-income, white and as young as 12 years old were being raped. They knew names, addresses, and even locations where the rapists perpetrated their crimes. They knew the rapists were ages 18 to 50, that there were almost 100 of them, and that they were mostly Pakistani.
Yet senior officers intentionally devoted too few resources to the operation then shut it down prematurely in 2005 before officers could arrest or even disrupt many of the rapists. Since the criminals were Pakistani, police allegedly feared being accused of racism against immigrants or bias against Muslims, so they tolerated the rape of children.
God inspired Isaiah to write of modern Britain: “[T]he whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment” (Isaiah 1:5-6).
Greta Thunberg named ‘Person of the Year’
Time magazine named 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg its 2019 “Person of the Year.” The magazine said that her climate obsession began when she was 11 years old when she attended a class about the effects of climate change and then fell into a “deep depression” with periods of “endless sadness” in which she barely spoke or ate.
In August 2018, Thunberg began skipping school to protest alone outside the Swedish Parliament. Her lone protest became a media sensation, and over the past year and a half, she has received numerous awards and has inspired other students to join her “school strike for the climate.” Many of the depressing climate predictions that distress Thunberg are untrue and are being used for ulterior political motives.
The promotion of Thunberg is an embodiment of an end-time prophecy in Isaiah 3:12: “As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.”
