Islamic State Targets Shiite Mosque in Saudi Arabia’s Dammam
Four people died in Saudi Arabia’s eastern city Dammam on Friday when an explosive-filled car was detonated in a Shiite mosque parking lot.
The Islamic State later claimed responsibility for the attack.
The violence comes a week after the Islamic State claimed responsibility for killing 21 and wounding 100 at another Shiite mosque in Saudi Arabia.
Before these two bombings, the Islamic State’s movements were largely confined to Iraq and Syria. Analysts now fear the Islamic State is trying to open up a new front in Saudi Arabia by targeting its minority Shiite population.
