Trumpet Hour: A Conversation With a Former Communist, Eugene Yelchin, and More

Download MP3 (54.7 MB)
Show Notes

• Communism isn’t a subject we tend to think a whole lot about these days—but it is an important and relevant issue.

• Today we’re going to talk with a man who grew up in Communist Russia, but then defected at age 27 after he became disillusioned with it. The man is Eugene Yelchin. He’s an award-winning artist and author. We’re going to talk about his novel Breaking Stalin’s Nose, a book for young people that helps them understand the dangers of communism by telling a story about the experiences of a schoolboy in Soviet-era Russia under Josef Stalin.

• We’ll also read portions of an essay from a former Communist spy that help expose the ideological roots of communism.

• And we’ll finish by contrasting the effects of socialist government with those of the form of government revealed in the Bible.
