Is Alzheimer’s Disease Fueled by Society’s Lack of Respect for the Elderly?
The Alzheimer’s pandemic has long been a dark riddle. But a new study says the main cause of the disease may be societies’ absence of respect for elderly people. It basically says that individuals who are conditioned by society to believe that they will lose their mental acuity and health when they grow old most likely will. But the Bible makes clear that viewing aging and the aged negatively is totally contrary to God’s law. The young should honor the aged, and older people should reject society’s negativity about aging and instead wear the gray hair, which the Bible calls the “crown of glory,” proudly! The biblical example of Caleb shows that aging does not have to by synonymous with decline. At age 85, he said he was “still just as strong” as he had been at age 40.
Lessons From Churchill’s Iron Curtain Speech
Immediately following World War Two, Winston Churchill was voted out of office by the British people. He then entered into one of his renown periods of the “black dog,” especially as he couldn’t lead the nation through to counter what he saw massive threat to the western world, the rise of the Soviet Russia. However, he soon recovered his energy when encouraged by US President Harry Truman to visit the United States for an important speaking engagement. His speech was entitled “The Sinews of Peace” yet is more famously known today as the “Iron Curtain” speech. This year in the United Kingdom, we had a goal to distribute over 2,000 copies of Herbert W. Armstrong’s flagship work, Mystery of the Ages. Why have we put so much emphasis on this book? In the late ’90s and early 2000s, the Philadelphia Church of God fought tirelessly to earn the copyright to redistribute this book and many other works of Mr. Armstrong’s, after the Worldwide Church of God said it was their “Christian duty” to keep them out of print. On today’s show, Stephen Flurry gives first hand accounts of that grueling court struggle and explains why we fought so hard to keep Mystery of the Ages in print.
