No moral bar to creating designer babies, medical ethics body claims

The creation of designer babies has been given the green light by Britain’s most respected medical ethics body.

The Nuffield Council on Bioethics said that there should be no fundamental moral bar to parents genetically modifying their children, provided certain criteria were followed.

The authors of the report — senior geneticists, ethicists and lawyers — said that we should not necessarily restrict future DNA editing to curing inherited disease but also keep open the possibility of enhancing humans.
