Britain and America: A Fantastic Reason to Be Optimistic

Today, in Britain, it’s easy to feel good. It’s hot and sunny (for once) and we have a new prime minister brimming with positivity, energy and “can-do.”

“Now bring us sunshine!” proclaims the front page of yesterday’s Daily Mail. That’s the mood of much of the nation. After years of doubt and negativity, we have a prime minister who believes that Great Britain can be great.

Many in the United States are probably feeling upbeat as well. Robert Mueller’s testimony yesterday seems to be a turning point. It appears to be a major defeat for those who wanted to overturn a democratic election. And perhaps even many everyday Americans who don’t like the president may be ready to move on from this.

So Britain has a pro-Brexit dream team running the country. President Donald Trump is finally slipping off the Russia-collusion-accusation noose from around his neck.

For both nations, there are great reasons for optimism!

‘Impeachment’s Over’

It just takes a quick glance at the headlines to see how the Mueller hearings went:

  • “The Mueller Hearings Were a Waste of Everyone’s Time” – New York Post
  • “‘Euphoria’: White House, GOP Exult After a Flat Mueller Performance” – Politico
  • “The Blockbuster That Wasn’t: Mueller Disappoints the Democrats” – New York Times

Despite all the hype from men like House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler, the hearing did not expose President Trump as a criminal. Instead it shed more light on the Mueller enquiry and the rabid efforts of the far left to tear down a president they despise.

Even pro-impeachment Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe tweeted: “Much as I hate to say it, this morning’s hearing was a disaster.” abc News senior national correspondent Terroy Moran declared, “Impeachment’s over.”

Seeing all this coverage, I immediately thought of Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry’s August cover article: “Can President Trump Get Control of His Own Divided Government?

“Biblical prophecy indicates that there will be something of a turnaround … and that President Trump will actually gain more control of these government agencies that have been working to unseat him,” he wrote.

We saw “something of a turnaround” in the Mueller testimony yesterday.

Mr. Flurry based his forecast on a series of prophecies about the ancient Israelite King Jeroboam ii.

The book of Amos contains prophecies for the future. Amos 9:13, for example, describes an idyllic world where there is so much abundance that the “the plowman shall overtake the reaper.” There is not enough time to gather all the food in before the fields need to be planted again. That hasn’t happened yet.

Amos also describes King Jeroboam, referring to Jeroboam ii, who ruled the kingdom of Israel during Amos’s lifetime. Because Amos contains prophecies of the future like Amos 9:13, descriptions of Jeroboam ii are prophetic. Amos was forecasting a future leader who would accomplish similar things to Jeroboam ii. That’s one reason why Amos’s book has been preserved for nearly 3,000 years.

The history of Jeroboam ii’s reign is recorded in 2 Kings 14. “[T]he Lord saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel. And the Lord said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash” (verses 26-27).

“Israel was nearing collapse!” wrote Mr. Flurry. God had to intervene to save the nation. “God was merciful, and used Jeroboam to oversee one last age of prosperity.”

The same has happened today in the modern descendants of ancient Israel, which includes the United States. “This country came painfully close. … We came dangerously close to allowing a few people—reckless, lawless people—to spread lies, conspiracies and a hoax, and successfully trying to undo the will of the American people,” Fox’s Sean Hannity said last night.

“Those people,” wrote Mr. Flurry, “were getting control of the government. Justice in the land was destroyed. Rule of law was twisted and perverted. People were losing faith in the government. If this trend had continued, it would have meant the end of our republic!

“But God was not ready for that. He was going to save America—along with Britain and the Jewish nation.”

God used a modern version of Jeroboam ii to save America. But notice that Mr. Flurry said Britain would be saved too.

Brexit Dream Team

Which brings us to the man even President Trump himself has called “Britain’s Trump”: Boris Johnson. Minutes after he was announced as leader of Britain’s Conservative Party on Tuesday, he said, “[W]e are once again going to believe in ourselves and what we can achieve. And like some slumbering giant, we are going to rise and ping off the guy ropes of self-doubt and negativity.”

In his first speech as prime minister yesterday, he said, “[D]o not underestimate this country.”

“No one in the last few centuries has succeeded in betting against the pluck and nerve and ambition of this country,” he said. “They will not succeed today.”

In his first speech before Parliament in his new role, he told the house that he would be “making this country the greatest place on Earth,” and painted a utopian picture of Britain in the Year 2050.

And Mr. Johnson has not just brought talk. Yesterday he conducted one of the most sweeping changes in governmental personnel in modern history. Out went the center-left-conservatives-in-name-only members from the cabinet of his predecessor, Theresa May. In came a whole cadre of properly conservative, pro-Brexit ministers.

The names probably won’t mean much to you if you’re outside the UK, but as Allister Heath wrote in the Telegraph, the early signs are that there is at least a chance that something extraordinary might happen.”

“His appointments so far have been exceptional—as good as they could have been from a free market and euroskeptic perspective,” he wrote.

Perhaps the most remarkable is his choice of Dominic Cummings as a senior adviser. Cummings was the icon leader of the Vote Leave campaign, the Left’s boogie man of Brexit. He’s driven, unorthodox and unafraid of confrontation. He’s going to drive the pro-EU establishment in Whitehall crazy. By bringing him in, Mr. Johnson makes a powerful statement about the type of government he plans to lead.

He plans to get things done. He has even repeatedly held himself to not only getting Brexit accomplished but doing so by the October 31 deadline—less than 100 days away. Allison Pearson wrote in the Telegraph:

“Action this Day!” That was the order on the red stickers his hero, Winston Churchill, would put on the memoranda he sent to his commanders in the field, urging a speedy resolution. You could practically feel AtD! stamped on every line of the urgent, pulsing, inspirational speech Boris Johnson gave on the steps of 10 Downing Street on Wednesday afternoon. … Our new prime minister isn’t hanging about, you know. There’s a Brexit battle to be won.

That’s why I’m upbeat and optimistic. I don’t know what’s going to happen with Brexit, but we have a leader working hard to make it a success, with a team that believes Britain can be great again.

The Greatest Reason for Hope

“It is refreshing to see America regaining some sense of sanity,” wrote Mr. Flurry. It’s similarly refreshing to see the turnaround in Britain. But as he wrote shortly thereafter, “The national resurgence brought about by this end-time Jeroboam is only temporary. Prophecy is clear that America’s ultimate fate is just as devastating, and even far worse, than the kingdom of Israel’s was anciently.”

Jeroboam ii was the last really stable king of Israel. Because everything was going so great, the people of Israel continued in their sins and refused to repent toward God. Within months of his death, the nation was tearing itself apart in civil war.

Through Mr. Flurry, God has told us there would be a resurgence. There has been. He has warned us it will be temporary. It will be. Our nations are being brought down by sin. Is Prime Minister Johnson or President Trump going to fix our nations’ problems with family breakdown? They may show the decline. But Mr. Johnson has been a strong supporter of the lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender movement. He is not married to his live-in girlfriend—and that fact is not remarkable to anyone in the United Kingdom anymore.

Without solving our nation’s family problems, they will be unable to get to the heart of other crises. They won’t be able to solve our spiraling crime, drugs crisis or the tragic rise of self-harm and suicide in our young people. They may be able to throw some money at the effects, but without getting to the cause they are only applying sticking plasters.

And they will only be able to throw money at those problems for so long. Both nations have massive debt problems. Both have record debt, yet are committed to spend, spend, spend.

Boris Johnson may be promising utopia for 2050, but he’s not the one who will bring about Amos’s prophecies of super abundance.

Why am I telling you this? Because I want to rain on everyone’s parade? To point out that even though things are going well, they’re about to explode? To squash this spirit of optimism and energy?

Absolutely not—the exact opposite! I want to give you an even more powerful source for hope and optimism. If you are hope-filled and energized about the future of your country, great! You need that! This work needs that!

Sin always brings penalties. These men may address some of our nations’ problems, but they won’t address our nations’ sins. But here’s the hope: God will. God has a plan to correct our nations. He will address the real root cause of everything dragging down Britain and America. Once He does, our nations will experience blessings and abundance like never before. Then the prophecies in Amos about the plowman overtaking the reaper will be fulfilled.

God’s plan doesn’t stop there; in fact, that barely begins it. He has a plan for the whole world—a plan to offer all mankind a glorious eternal future. Mr. Flurry concluded his August cover article by writing:

How wonderful that God reveals that spectacular future in advance, to give us all hope as we face such horrifying times. How marvelous that He explains the events that lead to that future, including what it means when a Jeroboam-type leader comes along and shocks everyone—especially the opposition—by turning things around in America. How magnificent to understand these events in the context of the larger prophetic panorama! Even the nightmares of the Great Tribulation make sense when you apprehend the inspiring bigger picture. Receiving this kind of understanding is priceless!

In fact, God says that those to whom He reveals this truth and who help Him proclaim it, those who wholeheartedly turn to Him and conquer the devil, will share His throne and help Him rule! (Revelation 3:19-21; 20:4). It may involve confrontation in the short term, as it did for Amos. But it comes with the magnificent honor of sitting on the throne of David with Jesus Christ forever!

That should make your imagination soar! See that vision! Be moved and stirred by it—and turn with your whole heart to the God who will transform that vision into reality!

If you invest your optimism in Mr. Johnson or Mr. Trump, sooner or later it will be dashed. But placing your optimism in the true God is the best investment you could ever make.

But why this temporary resurgence at all? Why not go straight to the punishment our nations need? Mr. Flurry answered that question in a Key of David program last year. It is because “there is a message that has to go out one more time.”

This resurgence is a massive opportunity. It’s an opportunity for this work. But it’s an opportunity for you personally. It is an opportunity to support this message, and thus qualify for the massive rewards God is offering those who do. An opportunity to do a lot of good for a lot of people, by giving the true hope they need in the time ahead. An opportunity to help people repent, turn to God, and receive abundant blessings.

Who knows how long this opportunity will last? In Britain things look good for now. But the Bible tells us that at the end of the day, the EU will come out on top.

If you feel energized and optimistic because of recent events, great! Use it! The good news in Britain and America this week is fulfilled prophecy—proof of an Almighty God with a plan for mankind. That’s a fantastic reason to be optimistic. Base that optimism not on men but on the sure foundation of God’s vision for man’s future. Then use that energy to take advantage of this temporary resurgence by helping get out this message of hope to as many as we can.
