Maria Bartiromo no longer works at Fox News, according to a brief statement put out by the cable network yesterday. She reportedly wanted to continue investigating the 2020 election steal, while Fox was determined to block her.

“Bartiromo had fallen out of favor at Fox News due to the legal headaches caused by statements made on her programs,” reported the Los Angeles Times.

• Dominion and Smartmatic have both pursued defamation cases based on her statements, and Fox News paid Dominion Voting Systems $787.5 million in 2023 to settle.

President Donald Trump declassified intelligence files in July that he said proved China’s efforts to manipulate the election in favor of Joe Biden. Most of the media refused to broadcast his July 16 speech on the subject.

Here’s what happened next, according to the Status newsletter:

• Fox sent a message to senior reporters ordering them not to cover the allegations in Trump’s speech. Trump, or someone from the White House, asked Bartiromo why she wasn’t covering the story. She forwarded them the internal message, showing executives were blocking the story.
• Fox claimed that sharing internal communication violated her employment contract and fired her on August 9, though they are just now announcing it.

Scrutiny of the 2020 elections continues to be blocked by the media, the courts and even American intelligence services.

New Details Emerge on U.S.-Saudi Nuclear Proposal

On September 2, the Wall Street Journal published new details of the United States-Saudi Arabia nuclear deal currently under review by the U.S. Congress. Saudi Arabia claims it wants a nuclear program only for energy security, but skeptics say it could be converted into a weapons program. The new details corroborate these fears.

• Saudi Arabia could enrich uranium almost to 20 percent on Saudi soil.
• Once a nation has the infrastructure for this, further refinement to weapons-grade 90 percent enrichment is comparatively easy.
• The agreement exempts Saudi Arabia from International Atomic Energy Agency snap inspections of supposedly non-nuclear sites. Such inspections were implemented for nuclear threshold states like Iran.

Does Saudi Arabia want a bomb? Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the country’s de facto leader, told Fox News in 2023 that if Iran gets a nuclear weapon, “we have to get one.”

• Whether Iran can recover its enriched uranium from sites bombed by the U.S. is still unknown, but experts estimate the material could produce about 10 nuclear warheads. This possibility, combined with Iran’s bombing of Saudi Arabia this spring, are probably fueling a Saudi rush to at least have the capacity to build a bomb.

Will Saudi Arabia get a bomb? Milei: Argentina Is Taking the Falklands

Argentina will soon take the Falkland Islands, President Javier Milei boasted yesterday, and he promised to sanction any oil companies that drill for oil in the islands’ territorial waters.

This comes after U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly refused to back Britain’s ownership of the islands.

• Trump was asked on Monday if he would reconsider America’s support for Britain over the Falklands. He conspicuously dodged the question, replying: “I always review every position. That’s just one of many.”
• Later, in an interview with GB News, he was asked if he would “come to the UK’s aid” over the Falklands. He replied: “Your country was not there to help me” over Iran. “We didn’t need help, but I did ask nato, and I asked your former leader, ‘Why didn’t you send a couple of ships?’”

This lack of support has emboldened Argentina. Milei came to power as somewhat of a moderate regarding the islands. He formerly wanted Argentina to drop the issue and move on. But now he has decided the dispute can win him votes, so he’s playing it up.

• The British, he said, “are in decline. However, Argentina is flourishing, and it will prevail.”
• The speech has had little practical effect. The British and Israeli companies drilling in Falkland waters confirmed this morning that they are still moving ahead. But Argentina has clearly not given up its claim to the islands.

Britain’s overseas bases formed the basis of its empire. Their loss coincided with that empire’s decline.
