‘Natural’ disaster strikes the Philippines
Typhoon Kalmaegi killed at least 40 Filipinos and trapped dozens more on Monday. The Cebu and Southern Leyte provinces suffered 87 mph winds, gusts exceeding 121 mph and several feet of floodwater. Kalmaegi is proceeding through the region and is expected to strike Vietnam Thursday night. This disaster comes soon after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake killed 79 people in Cebu on September 30.
