The ‘Forever Wars’ Escalate

Despite all the rhetoric about peace, the world is becoming more violent.

The world is headed into a very dark place! That was War Room host Steve Bannon’s assessment yesterday after Ukraine carried out a daring drone strike two days ago against nuclear bombers at air bases thousands of miles inside Russia. Bannon said, “And once you get escalation in a situation like this, particularly on the Eurasian landmass … they will turn into wars of annihilation …. We are headed toward a dark place.” Today, “Bannon,” “Zelenskyy,” “Kremlin” and “wwiii” are trending on X.

We are witnessing a world descending into chaos. My father, Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry, has been warning since day one of President Donald Trump’s administration that President Trump does not know the way to peace; therefore, the conflicts raging in Ukraine, Israel and other places will continue. Initially, many “Make America Great Again” conservatives were optimistic that President Trump would negotiate peace between Russia and Ukraine, but the war has escalated instead. Eurasia is a place of wars of annihilation, and the world is moving into the darkness.

Allegedly, Ukraine has been planning this drone strike on Russia for 18 months, yet the United States knew nothing about it. What does that tell you about the state of the world right now? Does it sound like Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy are on the verge of making peace? Or does it sound like Russia and Ukraine are digging in for a protracted war of attrition that will eventually escalate into nuclear Armageddon?

Bible prophecy indicates that Russia and Germany will negotiate a temporary truce over Ukraine so that each bloc can pursue other objectives. But such truces do not bring real peace. Our booklet Russia and China in Prophecy explains Bible prophecies that forecast a 10-nation European confederation that will ultimately attack Russia, then suffer a devastating counterattack (Revelation 8:13; 9:1-21). Ukraine’s drone strike into Russia is only a tiny preview of the three woes of Revelation.

In the minds of men like Russian President Vladimir Putin and others wielding power today, peace is just the lull between battles. President Trump’s best efforts to bring peace through appeasement will only strengthen America’s enemies as the darkness of World War iii descends.

Jonathan Tobin, editor in chief of Jewish News Syndicate, just published an editorial about how President Trump dislikes “forever wars.” This is understandable. But like it or not, both Ukraine and Israel are in forever wars with enemies who reject their right to even exist. Their choice is between continuous battle or annihilation.

If there is one thing that a century of conflict against the Palestinians has made clear, it is that they aren’t giving up on their fantasy of destroying the Jewish state,” Tobin wrote. “That is the ultimate forever war. If Trump wants to hold onto the title that he rightly earned in his first term as the most pro-Israel president to ever sit in the White House, then he’s going to have [to] accept that supporting the Jewish state involves a recognition that this is one forever war from which neither Israel nor the United States can withdraw.”

Many maga conservatives do not like this message. They desperately want peace between Ukraine and Russia and between Israel and Hamas. They refuse to accept the reality of the situation, which is that Putin’s Russia will never accept an independent Ukraine, just as Hamas will never accept an independent Israel. Therefore, both Ukraine and Israel will be destroyed unless their power and their will exceeds that of their mortal enemies.

Jesus Christ told His disciples that both “wars” and “rumors of wars” would precede His return and that these wars would be so destructive that “there should be no flesh saved” (Matthew 24:6-8, 22). He was prophesying the annihilation not only of entire countries, but the entire human race! Mankind didn’t invent weapons that could wipe out all human life until the mid-1900s. That dark time that Jesus prophesied is the time we are living in now.

Conflicts like the one in Ukraine are more deadly than even the best commentators realize. Bible prophecy says they will ultimately erupt in a global cataclysm far worse than even a world war! The nations desperately need a warning about the coming darkness, so God has provided that warning in His Word, the Holy Bible, and He has selected a watchman to proclaim it.

During World War ii, the British people elected Sir Winston Churchill as their watchman. This is actually prophesied in Ezekiel 33:2. God used him to save Western civilization. Today, the danger is even greater than Nazi Germany and the Axis powers. The entire human race is at risk of annihilation. This time there is no Churchill, and even President Trump is powerless to stop the disaster. God prophesied in Ezekiel 33:7 that this time, the only watchman with a message that can save us is someone He Himself is raising up: an actual prophet: “So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.”

The people must listen and act before it is too late. This time, the life-saving warning is not coming from an elected leader. It’s coming from someone who will not only tell us hard truths about national survival, but will tell us the ultimate reason we are face-to-face with annihilation. That reason is our sins.

As Ezekiel prophesied, God commands His end-time watchman to warn America’s leaders of the truth, no matter how unpopular, alerting them to the dangers that surround them, telling them the truth about their sins, and pointing them to God. Dialogue will not bring peace. Concessions will not bring peace. Only repentance toward God and His intervention can bring peace!
