Ukraine Launches Its Largest Drone Attack on Russia

Ukraine launched around 337 drones into Russia last night in the largest drone attack since the start of the Russo-Ukrainian War, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry.

Russia said it downed around 91 drones headed for Moscow and another 126 targeting the Kursk region, where Russia has recently gained ground. Around 10 regions came under attack.

Damage: In Moscow, local officials said at least two civilians were killed and another 18 were injured at a meat warehouse. Russian state media reported more deaths and injuries.

According to Moscow’s governor, Andrei Vorobyov, at least seven apartment buildings were damaged. Russian state news reported car parks and residential buildings were set on fire. Moscow’s four main airports were also shut down temporarily.

Peace talks: The attack came the night before United States and Ukrainian officials were to meet in Saudi Arabia for peace talks. Ukraine has not claimed responsibility, but the head of Ukraine’s government center for countering disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, said in a video statement following the attack:

All the drone strikes in Russia tonight—on Moscow, on airports and so on—are the signal to Putin that he also must be interested in a truce in the sky that Ukraine is going to offer today during talks …. Drones can also massively attack Moscow. Of course, air defense shoots down those drones. But this does not save Russians from panic.

Ukraine has expressed a willingness to negotiate an air and naval ceasefire with Russia.

Russian attacks: Russia has also recently increased its attacks on Ukraine. Since Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with U.S. President Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office on February 28, Russia has launched over 1,550 drones and 80 missiles into Ukraine.

Repercussions: The attack will likely impact negotiations to end the war. President Trump is frustrated at the ongoing fighting and has pushed Ukraine into negotiations.

As the U.S. pulls back its support for Ukraine and pressures it to cooperate with Russia, European nations are using this as an excuse to militarize.
