Macron: France to Offer Nuclear Umbrella to European Allies

French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a televised address to the nation on Wednesday night, in which he announced France would consider offering its nuclear weapons to European allies.

He said this after emphasizing that Russia has become a serious threat to France and Europe, and that Russia cannot be expected to hold the terms of a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Our nuclear deterrent protects us. It is comprehensive, sovereign and French through and through. … I have decided to open the strategic debate on the protection of our allies on the European continent by our deterrent.
—Emmanuel Macron

Rearmament: Macron said European Union leaders will meet this week to agree on massive joint funding to buy and produce modern tanks, weapons, munitions and equipment for Europe.

He said EU members will soon be able to increase military spending without counting it toward their deficit—meaning they can borrow as much as they like if the money is for weapons. Germany already agreed on such a deal this week.

Ukraine deal: Macron warned against signing a ceasefire deal in the Russo-Ukrainian War that is “too fragile.” He said France will host European chiefs of staff next week to discuss how to support Ukraine after a deal, which might include sending in European forces.

Break with America: Macron warned that Europe must be ready for the United States to leave its side. He also said Europe should prepare for the U.S. to impose tariffs, as it did on Canada and Mexico.

Our Europe has the economic strength, the power and the talent to rise to the challenge of these times. And we have the means to take on the United States of America, let alone Russia. So we must act as one, as Europeans, and we must be determined to protect ourselves.

Europe’s future: Watch for Europe to quickly become a unified, military superpower that is no longer allied with the U.S. Although France will play a major part in this, Bible prophecy shows Germany will take the lead.
