‘The Free World Needs a New Leader’: Europe Responds to Trump-Zelenskyy Meeting

European Union foreign-policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Friday that it is clear “the free world needs a new leader” after United States President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy argued in the White House and failed to sign a deal.

“It’s up to us Europeans to take this challenge,” she said.

European support: Several European leaders reassured Ukraine of their support after Friday’s meeting between Trump, U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Zelensky went off the rails.

“Ukrainian friends, you are not alone,” said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Dear Volodymyr, we stand with Ukraine in good and in testing times. We must never confuse aggressor and victim in this terrible war.
—Friedrich Merz, Germany’s incoming chancellor

The truth is simple. Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia is the aggressor. Ukraine defends its freedom—and ours. We stand with Ukraine.
—Maia Sandu, Moldovan president

Prime ministers of Sweden, Latvia, Norway and Czech Republic and foreign ministers of Germany and the Netherlands all expressed support for Ukraine.

Trans-Atlantic rift: European leaders were already shaken by Vance’s speech at the Munich Security Conference two weeks ago, in which he criticized the Continent for rejecting democracy and attacking free speech.

Now that Trump said Zelenskyy was not “ready for peace” and accused him of “gambling with World War iii,” many European leaders are starting to distance themselves from Trump.

The Continent no longer views the U.S. as a reliable ally and global leader, so it is increasingly taking responsibility on itself.

Coming superpower: Expect the division between the U.S. and Europe to grow while Europe militarizes into a formidable superpower. Your Bible prophesies that a unified, militaristic Europe is about to play a central role in world events.
