Russia-China Cooperation in Arctic Concerns U.S.
Increasing cooperation between Russia and China in the Arctic poses a security concern to the United States and its allies, according to a Pentagon report outlining the U.S. strategy for the Arctic published on Monday.
China is seeking to leverage the “changing dynamics in the Arctic to pursue greater influence and access, take advantage of Arctic resources, and play a larger role in regional governance,” the report said.
According to the Pentagon, Russia has been reopening hundreds of old Soviet era military sites in the region.
Valuable: With its frigid temperatures and frozen waterways, the Arctic has been practically useless on the geopolitical scene. But analysts are predicting that the Arctic could be ice free as soon as 2030, making the region, with its stores of natural resources, a strategic hot spot .
Russia and China know this and are ready to exploit the opportunity. Russia has already rerouted many of its shipments to the Arctic from the Suez Canal.
The West has watched it all happen, doing little to gain an advantage back over Russia.
Times of the Gentiles: Russian dominance of the Arctic is bad news for the U.S. and its allies. We know from Bible prophecy that America’s new Arctic strategy will not alter the current balance of power in the region. In fact, the Bible prophesies of an Asian alliance that will use trading routes such as the Arctic to economically besiege America.
