Xi Prepares to Visit Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed reports on Wednesday that Chinese General Secretary Xi Jinping is planning to visit Moscow in the coming months. “We await a visit of the president of the People’s Republic of China to Russia,” Putin told Wang Yi, a top Chinese diplomat, in a meeting at the Kremlin. “Everything is progressing, developing. We are reaching new frontiers.”

  • Putin and Xi plan on discussing the Ukraine war.
  • No official date has been scheduled, but the meeting may occur as early as April or May.

Muddled opinion: Officials from China continue to assert that China’s stance on the Ukraine conflict is one that aims to promote peace and deescalate the war. At a security conference on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang said that China’s main goal is to “promote peace talks” and “provide Chinese wisdom for the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.” He also condemned countries providing aid to Ukraine, saying that they were “adding fuel to the fire.”

Earlier this week, however, United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that China may be preparing to provide weapons to Russia for the war.

Common sentiments: Statements made by top officials from both countries show that Russia and China have the same goal of ending the era of U.S. global power. This goal could give China a reason to side with Russia over Ukraine.

Chinese-Russian relations are mature in character: They are rock solid and will withstand any test in a changing international situation.
—Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party

In the context of a campaign that is being waged by the collective West to contain both Russia and China, the further deepening of Russian-Chinese cooperation and interaction in the international arena is of particular importance.
—Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation

Prophecy says: Over 2,000 years ago, the Bible prophesied this shared goal. Ezekiel 38 warns that Russia and China will be partners in the end time and their relationship will have world-altering ramifications. To understand this foretold partnership, read Russia and China in Prophecy.
