The Nazi Origin of America’s Vulnerabilities
A scientist from Germany’s Nazi era, Dr. Wernher von Braun, designed the rocket that took the first Americans to the moon. Before that, he designed rockets for Adolf Hitler’s Wehrmacht. He was just one of 1,600 Nazi doctors, physicists and chemists brought to the United States in Operation Paperclip, which began in 1944. After World War ii, these scientists were used to win the technological race for supremacy over the Soviet Union. They helped America advance in space, biowarfare and other fields of military technology.
America was relying on knowledge gained through horrifying means—slave labor, human experiments, etc. Under Hitler, these scientists were working on cutting edge technology—such as intercontinental missiles, offensive bioweapons and protective vaccines—that could have changed the outcome of the war and added millions to the death toll.
Although these Nazis helped enable America’s rise to dominance, they may have also laid the foundation for its demise.
How It Began
Annie Jacobsen writes about this history in her book Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program That Brought Nazi Scientists to America. In an interview with npr, she said:
It’s just a few months after the landings at Normandy and you have Allied forces making their way across the Continent, headed toward Berlin and Munich, and with them, sort of scattered among the soldiers, are these small teams of scientific intelligence officers. And they are searching for the Reich’s weapons. And they don’t know what they might find.
One example was they had no idea that Hitler had created this whole arsenal of nerve agents. They had no idea that Hitler was working on a bubonic plague weapon. That is really where Paperclip began, which was suddenly the Pentagon realizing, “Wait a minute, we need these weapons for ourselves.”
Using scientists who had no problem with slave labor and human experiments raises moral concerns. These scientists were also actively working toward the goal of destroying Britain and the U.S. Many were happy to cooperate with America instead of facing execution, a prison cell or deportation to Soviet Russia.
But there might have been yet another incentive. The year they were captured, German government agents and industrialists were working to go underground and prepare for the next round. How many scientists were part of this plot? Could it be that the U.S. indirectly helped Nazi plans to survive? Perhaps this was part of the reason why the U.S. kept the Nazis’ underground plans secret until 1996.
The War for Space
Sputnik, the world’s first artificial satellite launched by the Soviet Union in 1957, shocked the world: The Soviet dictatorship appeared to be winning the space race. Ultimately, America won—thanks in large part to German scientists. Dr. von Braun directly designed the rocket that took the first Americans to the moon; a Nazi scientist commissioned to help destroy America was suddenly responsible for ensuring America’s rise to power.
“What people don’t realize is that Operation Paperclip was actually much, much larger than just rocket scientists,” space historian Jordan Bimm wrote. “Over 1,500 German scientists were brought to the U.S. and not just rocket scientists, but all manner of medical experts, engineers. They ended up in all different parts of the U.S. military industrial complex, including forming the nucleus of space medicine in the U.S. Air Force.”
In addition to von Braun, Hubertus Strughold provided the innovations that allowed astronauts to survive the journey. Today, he is considered “the father of space medicine.” Strughold was “formerly the head of aviation medicine research in Berlin for the Luftwaffe and was tied to a number of extremely heinous, lethal, concentration camp execution experiments,” Bimm wrote. Strughold oversaw human experiments on hypothermia and high-altitude sickness.
The science that landed the first human on the moon was enabled by the deaths of prisoners in Germany. But these moral concerns were overlooked. The goal was military advantage. Von Braun himself stated, “He who controls the open space around us is in a position to control the Earth.”
In Who Will Rule Space? the late Herbert W. Armstrong wrote: “The conquest of space, we are told, may well provide an answer to some of the Earth’s biggest problems. We are told that the purpose of this vast program is to advance the sum of human knowledge—for peaceful purposes. But every dollar spent and every feat accomplished accent the military and political nature of this race.”
The domination of space is arguably America’s greatest strength and the cause for relative stability. But space is also America’s greatest vulnerability. If it loses control over space, its military and civil infrastructure collapse. “When it comes to defending America, it is not enough to merely have an American presence in space,” U.S. President Donald Trump said in 2018. “We must have American dominance in space.”
This dangerous dependence may have been designed. And Germany today is well aware of it.
Danger on the Rise
The European Union has established its own global navigation satellite system called Galileo, giving it independence from the U.S. Germany is at the heart of the EU. Is the nation that helped enable America’s space dominance getting ready to decouple from it? We at the Trumpet have long considered this to be a high possibility. The Bible reveals that the U.S. military may suffer a fatal blow in this regard. Ezekiel 7:14 reads, “They have blown the trumpet, even to make all ready; but none goeth to the battle ….” In the January 1995 Trumpet, editor in chief Gerald Flurry explained: “The trumpet of war was blown in Israel—mainly America and Britain. It seems everybody was expecting our people to go into battle. But the greatest tragedy imaginable occurred! Nobody went to battle—even though the trumpet was blown!” This indicates that America will lose its ability to coordinate its military, perhaps by losing access to its space assets. Who will administer this fatal blow? Mr. Flurry explains in Ezekiel—The End-Time Prophet that it will be Germany.
Bioweapons and Vaccines: ‘The Sword and the Shield’
Another German scientist in Operation Paperclip was Dr. Kurt Blome, a top bioweapons researcher in Nazi Germany. He conducted research for the U.S. government on bioweapons and infectious diseases. Along with him, surgeon Brig. Gen. Walter Schreiber was in charge of developing vaccines. During the Third Reich, they worked under Dr. Eugen Haagen, who experimented on human prisoners to develop bioweapons to kill the enemy and vaccines to protect Germany’s soldiers. Jacobsen writes that together they provided “the sword and the shield.”
The U.S. government officially ended its bioweapons program in the late 1960s, but the research these Nazi scientists did for the U.S. (and possibly for Germany) has made our world a more dangerous place. The world has witnessed the dangers of a perverted use of vaccines. And the science exists to create destructive bioweapons.
The Bible indicates that some of this research will be used to the detriment of the U.S. and millions more.
Revelation 6 reads: “And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword” (verse 4). In a 1980 World Tomorrow television program, Mr. Armstrong explained: “Sword is the word used in the Bible for military equipment. This is ‘a great one.’ How about the hydrogen bomb; how about the nerve gas; how about the chemical warfare; how about all of the things that can absolutely annihilate human beings from this Earth?”
IG Farben and the Nazi Underground
Another infamous example is Otto Ambros who started his career in 1926 working for basf in Ludwigshafen, which later merged into a conglomerate called IG Farben. Ambros played a key role in the development and production of chemical weapons at IG Farben and was involved in experiments on prisoners at the Auschwitz concentration camp, testing the effectiveness of various chemical agents.
After the war, he was tried and convicted at the Nuremberg trials, but the U.S. ended his sentence early for strategic advantage. It remains unclear what Ambros did for the U.S. military’s chemical corps; the documents are classified or have vanished. But whatever advantage he gave to the U.S. in regards to bioweapons, he also could have provided secretly to Germany.
“Otto Ambros, I must say, was one of the most dark-hearted characters that I wrote about in this book,” Jacobsen told the History News Network. “He was Hitler’s favorite chemist, and I don’t say that lightly. I found a document in the National Archives, I don’t believe it had ever been revealed before, that showed that during the war Hitler gave Ambros a 1 million Reichsmark bonus for his scientific acumen. … Ambros was one of the last individuals to leave Auschwitz, this is in the last days of January 1945 as the Russians are about to liberate the death camp. Ambros is there, according to these documents I have located in Germany, destroying evidence right up until the very end.”
Ambros may have been destroying evidence that could have threatened Germany’s underground operation. These are some remarkable details, considering that IG Farben has been key player in the Nazi underground movement, as detailed in The Nazis Go Underground, by Curt Riess.
We can’t know for sure what role Ambros may have played in the Nazi underground operation, but a man like him is certain to have many secrets.
After the war, IG Farben was forced to break up. Ambros was adviser to at least one of its daughter companies: Chemie Grünenthal. Other offshoot companies have since risen to global fame. Today basf is the largest chemical company in the world. Its sister company, Bayer, is also a multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company that recently bought Monsanto—and is thus in charge of most everything that grows in the U.S. and heavily invested in pesticides.
This dependence on pesticides is also a great vulnerability. As we explain in “When the Harvest Fails,” the Bible indicates that this weakness will contribute to America’s downfall.
Those who can deploy pesticides can also deploy bioweapons—and perhaps Germany’s underground movement planned that. If so, America be warned: It may have invited traitors into its midst.
Montauk Monster
Much of the military research the Nazi scientists helped with has been classified. Such secrecy gives rise to conspiracies. A decades-old theory is that scientists from Operation Paperclip worked at Camp Hero, a former military base in Montauk, New York.
The origins of this conspiracy go back to the early 1980s, starting with a series of books by Preston B. Nichols and Peter Moon. The theories usually revolve around secret mind-control experiments and time-travel research.
In recent years, more speculation has arisen. Consider the “Montauk Monster,” a mysterious creature that appeared on the beach in July 2008. While it may have nothing to do with mind-control experiments and time-travel research, it does indicate something sinister. Images show it having a birdlike beak, fur-covered body and clawed feet. It disappeared mysteriously; some say it was taken by a government agent. The Observer wrote in 2018 “10 Years Later the Montauk Monster Is Still a Weird, Gross, Dark Mystery.”
Did Nazi experiments in the U.S. include mutating animals? Did these and other experiments continue? Whatever the case, Operation Paperclip has resulted in bad press for the U.S.; at worse, it led the U.S. into some horrific experiments.
Biblical Perspective
In addition to numerous prophecies about the fall of the United States, the Bible is full of warnings about following wicked ways. Jeremiah 10:2 warns: “Learn not the way of the heathen ….” God also warned ancient Israel against forming alliances with surrounding nations (e.g Exodus 23:31-33) and using the war technology of other nations. Deuteronomy 16, for example, warns that Israel was not to take horses for warfare from Egypt.
But modern Israel, primarily the United States and Britain, have formed alliances and trusted in the war-making abilities of other nations. God punished ancient Israel for its lack of trust in Him, and He will do the same to modern Israel.
To understand these prophecies, you have to prove the identity of modern Israel (read The United States and Britain in Prophecy). This understanding leads to a greater understanding of why using Nazi scientists will prove to be fatal for the U.S. It might have brought a temporary military advantage, but in the long run, it will lead to America’s destruction.
