Does the Trumpet Support the Republican Party?

Whose side are we on?

Uganda is currently doing what America won’t: standing up against immorality.

Yoweri Museveni, Uganda’s president, signed a landmark anti-lgbt bill on May 30, triggering a wave of Western backlash. “The signing of the bill is finished. No one will move us,” Museveni said.

The Trumpet wrote about it when the bill passed Uganda’s parliament in March: “Uganda Passes Anti-LGBT Bill and Sends American Left Into a Frenzy.” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre led the condemnations. She was echoed by other members of the Democratic Party and even its media apparatus.

Tuesday’s signing into law saw Joe Biden himself enter the fray. He even leveled a threat at Uganda saying this law “jeopardizes the prospects of critical economic growth for the entire country.”

Biden’s reaction is just the latest evidence of the disappearance of America’s morality. However, it is a predictable reaction. More surprising was Republican Sen. Ted Cruz’s reaction.

According to Uganda’s law, any homosexual who commits statutory rape while hiv-positive will be subject to the death penalty. Attempting to have same-sex relations will result in a 10-year prison sentence. Promoting homosexuality will carry a fine of about $260,000 or a 20-year imprisonment.

Uganda clearly thinks homosexuality is wrong. Its parliament cheered when the bill passed—not for the potential punishments but for the deterrent power of such penalties. “We are making this law for our children,” Uganda’s speaker of parliament said.

Ted Cruz thinks that is “horrific and wrong” and “grotesque and an abomination.”

This man is supposed to be a Christian, yet he is defending homosexuality, which the Bible calls an “abomination” (Leviticus 20:13).

This is not to pick on Ted Cruz. He doesn’t represent the entire Republican Party. But his weak stance is typical of the Republicans today. Many of them always have a soundbite ready: a sharp statement castigating Democrats worth a few thousand likes on Twitter and perhaps a few thousand dollars in campaign donations. Many times they will accurately identify the problem, the hypocrisy, the lies being peddled by the Democratic Party. And we at the Trumpet will acknowledge those truths accordingly.

But there are other times when their true measure is revealed. Like when Cruz, who faces reelection next year, caves in to the left. Or when House Speaker Kevin McCarthy surrenders to Democrats on the debt ceiling bill, along with the 149 other Republicans who voted for it.

The fact is, Democrats are wrong more often than Republicans are—and usually maliciously so. And so the Trumpet exposes their evildoings most frequently. But when Republicans exhibit weakness, hypocrisy and evil, we expose that too.

Most media organizations are actively rooting for someone. They try to persuade readers to vote for a particular person or a particular party, to believe in one or the other. No matter what side of the political aisle they are on, they all are looking to someone to save America. But the Trumpet is different.

As we have frequently written, the radical left is trying to “fundamentally transform” America. They want to destroy this nation and even blot out its name. There are powerful spiritual forces helping and empowering the radical left’s efforts in doing so. The natural inclination, therefore, is to look to the Republican Party as the solution.

But the examples of Ted Cruz, Kevin McCarthy and countless others show that there is no hope in human beings. “Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord,” (Jeremiah 17:5).

We cannot put our faith in human beings. We cannot put our trust in political parties. God says doing so makes us cursed.

“People are looking to Republicans, to conservative commentators and to preachers for hope,” writes Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry in America Under Attack. “The reality is that there is no hope without God!”

The Trumpet magazine focuses on current events, news and trends that align with Bible prophecy. And the Bible says that “the last days” would be evil times (2 Timothy 3:1). It even says that “evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived” (verse 13; New International Version).

This is what makes the Trumpet different. With this Bible-based view, Ted Cruz’s stance isn’t so surprising. The Bible predicted it. And things are going to get worse still. There is no hope in man—but there is hope in God.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” (Jeremiah 17:7-8; niv).

God has a plan to save America permanently. His plan is in action right now, and it is being brought ever closer with every news event and fulfilled prophecy. Broadcasting that hope-filled plan and the events that lead to it is the purpose of the Trumpet.
