Russia’s Nuclear-Capable Torpedoes

Russia’s Belgorod submarine is being equipped with its first set of Poseidon nuclear-capable super torpedoes, tass reported on January 16, quoting an unidentified source.

  • Poseidon is a nuclear-powered stealth torpedo capable of sending radioactive ocean swells that could decimate coastlines.
  • The torpedo can be autonomously operated and its range is unlimited.
  • Considered a new category of retaliatory weaponry by both Russia and the United States, it is not covered by current nuclear arms treaties.

They are very low noise, have high maneuverability and are practically indestructible for the enemy. There is no weapon that can counter them in the world today.
—Vladimir Putin, Russian president

Nuclear Russia: Soviet leader Joseph Stalin planned to develop a nuclear torpedo that could attack coastal cities and ports, particularly in the United States. With the development of the Poseidon torpedo, these weapons appear to now be a reality.

Under Putin’s reign, nuclear-armed Russia is … transforming its military machine into a modern, technologically advanced, 21st-century force. (America’s military has become dangerously depleted and much of it is obsolete.) By all of these heavy-handed tactics, President Putin has not only brought Russia back into play as a world power, he has also secured his position at the nation’s helm.
