What’s at Stake With America’s Elections

The United States votes today in midterm elections. Some believe that the nation’s survival hinges on their outcome. Democrats and Republicans both warn of the end of democracy if the other side wins.

[BRIEF]

America’s future is indeed at stake. This election shows how far the nation has fallen, how close it has come to collapse and how near we are to the edge. It also shows us how much misguided trust Americans still put in men.

First, the question of election integrity looms. Yesterday, pbs wrote:

If you go to bed on election night and don’t know who won a midterm congressional race, that’s normal. And if you wake up the next morning and find that a candidate who was behind hours earlier has since pulled ahead, that’s normal, too.

This is exactly how the 2020 election was stolen. The red wave showed up first, then new votes were “found,” and the blue wave overtook it.

  • As my father proves in America Under Attack, the U.S. almost lost its democracy in that stolen election, but God miraculously brought Donald Trump back to the presidency to temporarily save America, fulfilling 2 Kings 14:26-27, which is actually a prophecy for today.

But God isn’t saving our country permanently. This nation and this republic remain dangerously corrupt and weak. God says in Isaiah 3 that He has removed the mighty, prudent and honorable leaders so we see our own wretchedness and repent.

Look at what’s on the ballot:

  • Radicalism: In Michigan, the Democratic nominee for Senate is Abdul El-Sayed, a radical Muslim Communist supported by Barack Obama. Nominating him is a blatant attempt to destroy our nation from within. (Learn more about El-Sayed in our feature story this morning.)
  • Bribes: To his credit, President Trump recognizes the internal threats, but his countermeasures are what the Prophet Isaiah describes as childish. He promises a $5,000 “dividend” to every adult citizen if Republicans win, which is not only a dishonorable and precedent-setting strategy for winning votes in the short term but also will add to what some recognize as America’s greatest national security threat: our $40 trillion national debt.

These insane extremes reflect not only our leaders but our people.

  • Half the nation doesn’t recognize the mortal danger of the Communist and Islamic infiltrations. They don’t recognize a terrorist when he is staring them in the eyes. The president tries to bribe the other half of the country with gasoline prices and bank account balances.
  • No one wants a leader who tells them that they are wrong and sick and that it’s not just the leaders or the opposition who need to change but also all the people who think they are the good guys!

God is angry with our wickedness and spiritual blindness! Isaiah described where modern Israel is heading:

Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
—Isaiah 1:7

  • Look at the riots, the burning of our cities, the division of our nation, the corruption of our politicians. Can you see how close we are to our cities burning with fire?

Many prophecies show that this division will lead to our collapse. Once our national debt explodes and financial reality hits, violence will fill our streets.

  • We are about to see another civil war, and there is no captain, no counsellor, no prudent judge like Abraham Lincoln to point us to the real and only solution: “to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.”

God is sounding the alarm through the Trumpet and the Philadelphia Church of God. Will you hear it and heed? Use this midterm election to recognize the reality of American leadership and the American nation. Even on the brink of national disaster, you can repent toward God.

Homeownership Costs Just Hit Record High

America’s housing crisis is deepening. The median monthly cost of owning a home with a mortgage has hit a record high of more than $2,100, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data.

  • That figure is up 3.5 percent from last year and roughly 45 percent from a decade ago.
  • The median home currently costs about five times the median household income.
  • Nearly 3 in 10 homeowners now spend at least 30 percent of their income on housing.

Financial pressure is delaying major life events for younger adults. Fifty-five percent of Gen Z poll respondents say they have postponed decisions such as marriage, having children, further education and starting a business because of money, according to Deloitte’s 2026 Global Gen Z and Millennial Survey.

  • For the first time in the Harvard Youth Poll’s 26-year history, more young adults ages 18 to 29 expect to be worse off financially than their parents (27 percent) compared to those who expect to be better off (25 percent).

The affordability squeeze is also reshaping political views. Housing ranks as a top issue for Gen Z voters, with 91 percent in one Redfin survey calling affordable housing their top election priority. Many cite the broken path to homeownership as a reason they favor stronger government intervention in the market.

  • Housing costs are a primary driver of growth in groups like the Democratic Socialists of America.

One cause of the shortage is restrictive zoning and land-use rules that prevent builders from constructing more homes to meet demand.

Under the biblical system described in Leviticus 25:23, land was not allowed to be sold permanently because “the land is mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers” (New International Version). The jubilee laws required land to return to its original owners every 50 years, giving each generation access to land for housing and production based on hard work and wise management.

IN OTHER NEWS

The United States struck Iran’s Qeshm Island in the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz yesterday in an apparent retaliation against Iranian missile launches from the island. A U.S. official told the Wall Street Journal the government is trying to keep strikes like these low-key “so as not to signal any intention of resuming major combat operations.” President Donald Trump has indicated he may resume major combat operations after the midterm elections. Even these will prove ineffective for the same spiritual reasons the war has failed thus far.

Russian strikes on hospitals and other civilian targets kill 38: Russian missile and drone strikes on sites across Ukraine over the past 24 hours have killed at least 38 people and wounded more than 167 others, Ukrainian officials said this morning. Among the targets were residential buildings and a school used for aid distribution in Komyshuvakha, a hospital and other medical facilities in Dnipro and Kharkiv, and energy infrastructure in several regions. The attacks provide yet another illustration of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s determination to subjugate Ukraine regardless of the human cost.
