European-Canadian Union?

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney became the first foreign head of government to address the European Parliament today. In his speech, Carney seconded European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s call for Canada to become an “associate member” of the European Union, a designation that does not currently exist. Carney didn’t mention his trade dispute with United States President Donald Trump directly but made references to “economic integration … being used as a weapon and tariffs as a means of leverage.” This is the latest move in Carney’s pivot away from the U.S. and toward Europe—a pivot with a dangerous ulterior motive.
