Are Presidential Assassination Attempts Now Routine?

A deranged gunman opened fire outside the White House on Saturday in the third case of gunfire near the president in a month.

Even here in the United Kingdom, a suspected assassination attempt on the president of the United States is usually big news, earning wall-to-wall news coverage. This time, it was just one news item among many. President Trump’s umpteenth statement that a peace deal will be signed soon bumped it off the top spot.

[BRIEF]

An attempt on Donald Trump’s life is now business as usual.

Nasire Best was arrested last summer, trying to enter the White House and claiming he was Jesus Christ. This weekend, he reportedly came back, shot at Secret Service guards who returned fire, and was mortally wounded. He’s clearly a madman. But why are we seeing so many madmen going after this president?

The division in America is a sign of and a trigger for horrible times striking Americans and people from all nations,” wrote Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry in his book America Under Attack. “Our drastic rebellion against God is leading to drastic punishment. God is allowing us to see the results of worshiping our own will and, knowingly or unknowingly, following Satan. Our only hope is not in a political party or a man … but in God.”

The most recent edition of that book came out in 2023. “As world conditions deteriorate and you see these dire prophecies fulfilled, remember this message,” he writes.

That book prophesied that Donald Trump would return to office—but that only God could bring unity out of all this division.

  • There’s been a lot of talk of God over the last fortnight. But as Mr. Flurry writes, “to truly have hope in God, you must not only believe in Him but also repent toward Him, submit to Him, and obey His law.”

America is not repenting or obeying God’s law. The most recent assassination attempt is a reminder that the supposed rededication of America to God on the 250th anniversary of its founding needs to go much further.

If something shocking happens often enough, it becomes routine. But the frequency of these attempts on Donald Trump’s life is an urgent warning. It is a wake-up call to the nation and to individuals. Mr. Flurry concludes:

Today is your day. Today is the time for you to repent and obey God. You have the unparalleled opportunity to give yourself to God, to give to His work, and to give to this world. Making that historic decision will affect your whole life, and so many more, now and for eternity.

Respond to God. Repent toward God. He will use your life to help lift America and the whole world out of crisis.

Peace in Iran Imminent?

The United States and Iran are close to agreeing to a framework for ending the war, Axios reported May 23. The framework reportedly includes the U.S. and Iran agreeing to a 60-day extension of their ceasefire.

  • Both sides are to agree on opening their blockades of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran would be able to sell its oil freely and would have to clear mines that it planted in the strait.
  • Iran is required to announce it will never pursue a nuclear weapon. Negotiations would resume over its nuclear program, including a suspension of uranium enrichment and removal of enriched uranium stockpiles.
  • The U.S. would negotiate sanctions relief and unfreezing Iranian assets.
  • If the framework leads to a final deal, then the U.S. would withdraw “forces that were mobilized in recent months” from “the region,” according to Axios’s paraphrase.
  • The war between Israel and Hezbollah would also conclude.

U.S. President Donald Trump previously stated his goal was for Iran to dismantle its capacity to enrich uranium and end its sponsorship of proxy terror groups. If the Axios report is accurate, it appears President Trump has relented on both demands. In certain respects, the current deal framework actually appears remarkably similar to President Barack Obama’s 2016 Iran nuclear deal.

  • President Trump withdrew from that deal during his first term, claiming the Obama-era deal was a bad one that helped Iran get a nuclear bomb. Yet it appears he is placing America back in the same position.

We wrote in the April 2025 issue of the Philadelphia Trumpet:

How far will the Trump administration go in pursuing a “verified nuclear peace agreement”? Opting to end Iran’s nuclear program with a “piece of paper” ignores the reality of Iran’s fixed goals. …

The only motivation the Iranians have to sign a paper limiting their nuclear program is if it enables them to continue their perpetual war more successfully than an open dash toward reaching their nuclear ambitions. That is why [Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei signed the Obama deal.

President Trump pulled America out of the 2016 deal because he could see its flaws. But it appears he does not realize how committed Iran is to its course and how it would take advantage of any agreement signed with the West.

Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as Director of National Intelligence

U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced her resignation on Friday to care for her husband, who was diagnosed with bone cancer.

  • Gabbard wrote in her resignation letter that her husband, Abraham Williams, faces major health challenges in the weeks and months ahead and that, effective June 30, “I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle.”

President Trump named Aaron Lukas, her deputy, to serve as acting director of national intelligence.

Gabbard’s time leading America’s 18 intelligence agencies was often difficult. She was frequently left out of key national security meetings about issues such as Iran and Venezuela. Many people inside the White House and in Congress viewed her as outside of the president’s core national security team.

  • A former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii, Gabbard ran for president in 2020. She later broke with the Democratic Party and strongly supported Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

While she had a contentious relationship with parts of the intelligence community, President Trump thanked her for her service. On Truth Social he wrote, “Tulsi has done an incredible job, and we will miss her.” He especially liked her work on election security and her criticism of the RussiaGate hoax.

The loss of Gabbard is a blow to the Trump administration’s war against the “deep state.” Exposing the crimes of the Obama administration and reducing the Central Intelligence Agency’s influence over the government are vital to the nation’s future, and Gabbard was one of the few willing to fight the deep state. DW: Germany Strengthening Relationship With Gulf States

“Germany no longer believes it can play a mediating role in the conflict between the U.S., Israel and Iran. Instead, the German government is working to strengthen its ties with the Gulf states,” Deutsche Welle wrote on Thursday.

Those two sentences are exactly what the Trumpet has warned would happen: Germany is taking a less passive role in the Middle East and is actively building an anti-Iran and U.S.-excluding alliance with the Gulf states, such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and others. Germany’s strategy to dominate the Middle East is playing out.

The article went on to say that German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul had an “unusually busy” week last week.

  • After meeting Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Monday, he met U.A.E. Foreign Minister Abdullah Bin Zayed and Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah.

The Trumpet, based on a prophecy in Psalm 83, has forecast that both Jordan and Turkey would be part of a German-Gulf state alliance.

Why are these leaders meeting with Germany? Those countries have an interest in combating Iran’s regional power and are looking for an alternative ally to the United States.

  • DW Berlin bureau head Max Hofmann said the Gulf states are talking with Germany because “the U.S. is failing in its role as a partner and protector.”

Germany has been working toward an alliance with these nations for years. DW quoted analyst Philipp Dienstbier, of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, as stating, “The Gulf region was already at the top of Germany’s agenda even prior to the war and its economic repercussions.”

Why would the Gulf states be at the “top of Germany’s agenda even prior to the war?”

Germany wants to dominate the Middle East. The Bible prophesied in Psalm 83 that Germany would form an alliance in the end time with these “moderate” Muslim states to counter Iran. Eventually, a German-led superpower, potentially aided by the Gulf states, will destroy Iran. The Bible warns that after that, the Psalm 83 alliance will try to destroy Israel.

The German foreign minister’s “unusually busy” week building ties with these nations shows this end-time alliance is being formed now. For more information, read Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry’s article “The Hidden Danger in Germany’s ‘Alliance Against Iran.’

Study finds German Constitutional Court infected by Nazis: It’s a myth that Germany’s Constitutional Court, founded in 1951, was largely “unburdened” by Germany’s Nazi past, Tagesschau reported on Friday, based on a study commissioned by the court. Three of the court’s first 24 judges were former members of the Nazi Party and five were members of the SA “brownshirts.” Willi Geiger, one of the court’s first judges, was actively involved in prosecuting cases for the Nazi regime. The court’s first president, Hermann Höpker-Aschoff, worked for an institution that played a role in stealing from territories occupied by the Third Reich. These facts further indicate that Germany never denazified itself and that the current holders of power are capable of carrying out a similarly sinister agenda.

Right-wing leader returns to power in Slovenia: Janez Jansa was elected to his fourth term as prime minister by Slovenia’s parliament on Friday after liberal Robert Golob failed to form a government. The Catholic politician called the win an “important step towards a more successful and freer Slovenia.” However, Jansa has a reputation for cracking down on press freedom and has been compared to former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The return of a right-wing Catholic leader to this central European country is just a small foretaste of the political system that will soon engulf Europe.

Estonians placing their trust in Europe: The Kyiv Independent published an article on Thursday with interviews of several Estonians in the capital city of Tallinn regarding a potential Russian invasion. The general consensus was that the U.S. cannot be trusted to come to their defense, while Europe can. Egert Heintare stated, “I think the French or the Germans will come. I’m not counting on the United States.” Europeans are losing their trust in America to defend them, which will lead to the fracturing of nato and contribute to the formation of a European army.

The leaders of France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom called on Israel to stop settlement expansions in the West Bank in a joint statement published Friday. This is most significant coming from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni because of their vocal support for Israel in its war on terror. Bible prophecy and history show that the world’s, and especially Europe’s, growing anti-Semitism is an incredibly ominous trend.

The U.S. paused a $14 billion arms sale to Taiwan because of the war in Iran, Hung Cao, acting secretary of the U.S. Navy, announced Thursday. Cao said the U.S. must ensure it retains the munitions needed to fight Iran. But many noted that the decision came after President Donald Trump’s visit with Chinese General Secretary Xi Jinping. Originally, the U.S. said it would not consult China about the arms deal, but Trump said before his meeting with Xi that they would indeed discuss the sale. Based on Bible prophecy, Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has warned that China will succeed in conquering Taiwan “for one reason: because of a pitifully weak-willed America.”
