John Durham Testifies About FBI Corruption

Former Special Counsel John Durham testified on his report on the Trump-Russia probe before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.

Durham’s report: Durham spent four years researching the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s probe into Russia-Trump collusion in the 2016 presidential elections—a probe dubbed Crossfire Hurricane. He released his 306-page report last month.

It concluded that the fbi began the probe with no “actual evidence” but based its investigation on tips from Trump’s political rivals, neglected to interview key witnesses, and ignored pertinent facts that didn’t fit with the Russia collusion narrative.

Defending the report: Durham spent nearly six hours yesterday defending his findings. He denounced accusations that his report was biased, stating that he and his colleagues acted “with integrity and in the spirit of following the facts wherever they lead, without fear or favor” and with no “purpose to further a partisan political lens.”

He outlined his concern that the fbi’s leaders accepted unverified information as evidence, “knowing that it was likely material originating from a political campaign and political opponent.” He cited former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele’s dossier as an example, which the fbi used to apply for surveillance warrants.

Defending … the fbi? When asked about Republican calls to “defund” the fbi and the Department of Justice, Durham said, “Now, that doesn’t make sense to me.” Even after all of his criticism of the fbi, Durham concluded his opening statement by defending it.

Although our work exposed deep concerns … about the conduct of these investigations, our report should not be read to suggest in any way that Russian election interference was not a significant threat. It was. Nor should it be read to suggest that the investigative authorities at issue no longer serve important law enforcement and national security interests. They do. Rather, responsibility for the failures and transgressions that occurred here rest with the people who committed them or allowed them to occur.

Rather than label the whole institution corrupt, he chalked it up to corrupt individuals.

Accountability of leaders: Have these people taken responsibility though?

The problems identified in the report are not susceptible to overnight fixes … what is required is accountability—both in terms of the standards to which law enforcement personnel hold themselves and in the consequences they face.

But who has actually faced consequences? Only three defendants were actually charged, two of which were acquitted. The third, who pleaded guilty, received a probation sentence.

The report revealed that Barack Obama was briefed by the director of the Central Intelligence Agency on the “alleged approval by Hillary Clinton … to vilify Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming interference by Russian security services.”

He knew that the claim of Trump-Russian collusion was a hoax to get Clinton in office by smearing the opposition. But is Obama being held accountable? Few are questioning him.

The whole head is sick: In Isaiah 1:5-6, God prophesied a time when “the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it.” This is the state of our government today. It is not a matter of individuals being held accountable. The head—the government—is sick because the people are “laden with iniquity” (verse 4).

In his article “The Federal Bureau of Fabrication,” Trumpet executive editor Stephen Flurry wrote:

More and more Americans are realizing that there are serious problems in Washington, D.C., but almost nobody realizes that God does not place the primary blame on political leaders the way many political commentators do. In the end, government corruption is correction from God to help people see their sins and repent. Americans must come to realize that only God and the Bible can solve the serious problems in their government.

America’s deep-rooted evils won’t be solved by world leaders or institutions. There are far more dangerous powers behind this assault on truth than most people realize.
