Canada No Longer One of the Top 10 Freest Places on Earth

The covid-19 pandemic was a catastrophe for global freedom. According to the 2022 Human Freedom Index, released on January 26 by the Cato Institute and the Fraser Institute, 94 percent of the world’s people have less freedom than they did before sars-CoV-2 leaked out of the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Overall, this report showed that after a high point in 2007, global freedom experienced a slow descent until the covid-19 pandemic, after which it deteriorated swiftly. Yet few nations experienced as rapid a decline in freedom as Canada. Between 2019 and 2020, Canada fell from the seventh-freest nation on Earth to the 13th-freest nation. The study’s authors attribute the drop to the Trudeau administration’s draconian pandemic response.

O’ Canada: The Cato and Fraser institutes have kept records back to 2000, yet this is the first time in more than a decade that Canada did not rank in the top 10 freest nations worldwide.

“During the pandemic, like other governments worldwide, governments in Canada restricted freedom of movement, expression, assembly, and other freedoms even more than had in previous years,” said study coauthor Fred McMahon in a press release. This caused Canada’s Human Freedom Score to drop from 8.85 to 8.47. On a scale of 0 to 10, the average human freedom rating for 165 nations fell from 7.03 to 6.81 during the coronavirus pandemic.

Prophecy says: The top 10 freest nations on Earth were Switzerland, New Zealand, Estonia, Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Iceland, Finland, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Along with Australia, Britain, Canada and the United States, all these nations have substantial Israelite heritage, according to Herbert W. Armstrong’s book The United States and Britain in Prophecy. Yet these nations are also turning away from God’s law. End-time prophecies like those in Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28 show that these nations will lose their freedoms unless they repent. The covid-19 pandemic is giving us a foretaste of what a world without freedom is like.
