Mass Shooting in California, 10 Dead

A gunman slaughtered 10 people in the Los Angeles area on Saturday night. Huu Can Tran, 72 years old, walked into the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, California, a suburb with a growing Asian-American population. Club-goers were celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year. Tran killed 10 and injured 10 others with a semiautomatic pistol. About 20 minutes later, Tran walked into the Lai Lai Ballroom in the nearby community of Alhambra, likely to kill more, but people wrestled the gun out of his possession. Tran fled in a white van and was later found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Tran had previously attended the Star Ballroom Dance Studio. The police have released no motive.

This is the deadliest mass shooting in the United States since Uvalde, Texas, last year.
