Asylum Seeker Kills German Schoolgirl

Police arrested a 27-year-old asylum seeker from Eritrea who is suspected of having attacked two girls on their way to school on December 5 in the German town of Illerkirchberg. The 13-year-old girl survived, though seriously injured; the 14-year-old died in the hospital. The suspect fled to a refugee shelter after the attack. The incident sparked national headlines, mourning and outrage.

Small town, big crimes: This small town of just under 5,000 people had recently witnessed another horrifying crime: In 2019, four asylum seekers from Iraq and Afghanistan were convicted of gang-raping a 14-year-old girl in a refugee shelter, according to Der Spiegel.

More to come? The influx of illegal refugees into Germany is again drastically rising. While not comparable to the 2015–16 refugee crisis, incidents like these remind us how quickly the crisis can escalate. Just a few violent extremists can shock an entire nation.

A trend to watch: The fear of terrorism and the societal divide are transforming Germany. Attempting to hide the problem is only increasing fears. More and more Germans are fed up with their current government and are demanding new leadership. The prophetic outcome of this crisis is explained in “Germany, Migrants and the Big Lie.”
