Proposed Canadian Law May Allow Life Imprisonment for Online Speech ‘Crimes’

A proposed Canadian law that aims to make social media platforms less offensive may open the door to an Orwellian surveillance state. The Online Harms Act introduced late last month would allow judges to imprison adults for life if they advocate for genocide.

While advocating genocide is one of the most reprehensible things a person can do, this law would allow a provincial judge to impose house arrest and fine anyone they believe may commit an act of violence. This means the Canadian government will likely start monitoring online speech and doling out preemptive punishments on those federal officials say are dangerous.

Rising tyranny: Both liberals and conservatives have condemned the Online Harms Act. Margaret Atwood, author of The Handmaid’s Tale, called the bill “Orwellian.” Conservative journalist Stephen Moore called it the “most shocking of all the totalitarian, illiberal and anti-Enlightenment pieces of legislation that have been introduced in the Western world in decades.” Another commentator said, “Trudeau becomes dictator in Canada.”

When Justice Minister Arif Virani introduced the bill, he said he was frightened of the online dangers his children might encounter. Yet monitoring online speech and doling out life in prison for a Facebook post are what Communist regimes like Red China do.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau showed his authoritarian bent when he involved martial law to squash anti-vaccine mandate protests. Many people are concerned Canada will use the Online Harms Act to become more authoritarian.

Bitter affliction: Canadians should have paid attention in 2013 when Trudeau told a group of fundraisers, “There’s a level of admiration I actually have for China because their basic dictatorship is allowing them to actually turn their economy around on a dime.”

His father, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, gave a fiery speech in 1942 calling on Canadians to overthrow their government and establish a socialist dictatorship. The younger Trudeau may have accomplished his father’s dream by hijacking Canada from the inside.

2 Kings 14:26-27 prophesy of a time when the end-time nations of Israel suffer such bitter affliction that it threatens to destroy them. Canada is suffering such affliction under the Trudeau administration.
