A PARENT’S NIGHTMARE—A Somali mother and her malnourished child seek food at the Towfiq feeding center in south Mogadishu. The UN warned of looming famine in southern Somalia after five years of poor harvests, saying the war-wracked region needed large quantities of seeds, tools and food. The agency warned that 700,000 southern Somalis faced severe food shortages, with more than 300,000 at greatest risk.
