Battleground: The Supreme Court

America’s government is in an all-out political civil war. Now, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is dead, President Donald Trump will nominate a replacement this week, and perhaps the most consequential election in American history will occur in 43 days. This is a flashpoint for radical liberals, who have already launched open rebellion and literal rioting in the streets. Can you imagine what they are about to do next?

This political civil war involves the very survival of this country. And believe it or not, this war and the battleground of the Supreme Court in particular will also involve the Church that publishes the Trumpet.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was no ordinary jurist. She led the Court’s radical liberal bloc, and she was an icon of political activism from the bench. Whatever the facts of the law and the case at hand were, if it involved the liberal agenda, everyone knew what her ruling would be. She pushed for a “loose” interpretation of the United States Constitution. In 2012, she even advised the Muslim Brotherhood to make Egypt’s new constitution like South Africa’s rather than America’s.

At the end of the Obama administration and during the Trump administration, leftists in the media made her into an icon using documentary films, comedy shows, books, movies, T-shirts, Internet memes and more. People like that don’t usually popularize elderly women, but they were deifying her for a purpose: to sustain or increase their power over the Court.

A writer at Red State says it’s even more strategic than that: “The left has one and only one purpose in canonizing Ginsburg. You can see it in the language they use and their strident screeching over the past three years, as they realized that President Trump might get to name her replacement. … They don’t want Roe V. Wade [the Supreme Court legalization of abortion] overturned.”

Ginsburg was a political activist to the end: According to reports, one of the last things she said was, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

That has already become a battle cry for liberals. The next justice is the next fight in a much larger war raging over the Supreme Court. But as I’ll show you from the Bible, even the best Supreme Court commentators and scholars have no idea how far beyond Ruth Bader Ginsburg this war goes.

“For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel. And the Lord said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash” (2 Kings 14:26-27). This is the key verse to understand. This seems like only a description of ancient history, but it’s more than that. As my father, Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry, began emphasizing in March 2018, the same spirit that was trying to blot out the nation God was using then is trying to blot out the nation God is using now.

He wrote in “Saving America From the Radical Left—Temporarily” that this description of King Jeroboam is also a prophecy of President Donald Trump, whom God has used to lead a brief resurgence in America (Trumpet, May-June 2018).

This is happening in real time! This is happening, in part, in the Supreme Court—right now!

Like any other powerful governing body, there has always been a struggle to influence and control the Supreme Court of the United States. But the justices, Congress and the president have historically submitted to the principles of the rule of law, the supremacy of the Constitution and lesser precedents, such as Senate rules. This general approach has helped keep the nation strong. Recent generations have increasingly forgotten and rejected those principles. During the Obama administration, the court became consumed in all-out political civil war.

On Feb. 13, 2016, Justice Antonin Scalia died. The Court had lost its most solid, outspoken constitutional conservative. In the April 2016 Trumpet we wrote in “Scalia’s Death and the ‘Living Constitution’” about Scalia resisting the Court’s descent into judicial activism. It was a losing battle, but he was an important force. National Review at the time called him “the reliable anchor of the Supreme Court’s originalist wing in an era of deep division and conflict with the ‘living Constitution’ approach to jurisprudence that holds down the other wing of the Court” (Feb. 14, 2016). Scalia knew the same truth that Judge Robert Bork wrote in The Tempting of America: “The truth is that the judge who looks outside the Constitution always looks inside himself and nowhere else.” And the more you look outside the law, the less you protect Americans’ freedoms.

When Scalia died, President Barack Obama would be in power for 11 more months, and his successor would likely be a radical liberal. The Court already had at least three justices who consistently ruled with Ginsburg as liberal activists. A successful Obama appointment could lock in the Court’s anti-constitutional radical liberalism for a generation, and his successor could make it permanent!

How would Mr. Obama make his choice? He had been a “constitutional” lawyer who had worked to tear down the Constitution. He said as a senator in 2001 on public radio that the Constitution reflected the “fundamental flaw” of the United States. He said this supreme law of the land was “a charter of negative liberties” that stated what state and federal governments cannot do to you, but it “doesn’t say what the federal government or state government must do on your behalf.”

The framers of the Constitution believed your rights come from God and the government must not interfere with that. They wrote the Constitution to limit the government, restrain despotism, and preserve individual freedom. The rule of law, most of all the Constitution, had to be preserved to prevent tyranny and oppression—and the nightmarish period of America’s ancestors in ancient Israel, where “every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 17:6; 21:25). The end results of that way of thinking are tragic (Proverbs 14:12; 16:25). The supremacy of the Constitution and its limiting of the government are its great strengths, not its “fundamental flaw”!

Obama disagreed. As president when Scalia died, it seemed he would appoint the next justice to the Supreme Court.

What was left of the Supreme Court’s ability to strengthen America under the rule of law was about to be blotted out! I wrote at the time, “[N]ow that Scalia is gone, judicial imperialism is sure to reach new heights. … It remains to be seen whether President Obama will succeed in appointing a new justice. Even if he does not, the chances of the next president and Congress both being conservative and appointing and confirming a judge who respects the Constitution as Antonin Scalia did are practically nil.”

Yet look at what has happened since! Republicans were able to prevent Congress from confirming Obama’s nominee, Hillary Clinton lost the election, Donald Trump became president, Scalia was replaced by Neil Gorsuch, Justice Anthony Kennedy retired and was replaced by Brett Kavanaugh, and now Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat is open!

President Trump will likely nominate a constitutional conservative, and the Constitution requires only that the Senate, which currently has a Republican majority, confirm that nominee.

Ginsburg called for a “new” president in 2021 and for everyone to wait until then to replace her so that she could be succeeded by another radical liberal. This is a perfect example of how these liberals think. During the battle for who would replace Scalia, Obama argued that he had to fulfill his “constitutional duty” to nominate someone, and Congress had to do its “constitutional duty” to vote on the nomination. “Because our Supreme Court really is unique,” he said. “It’s supposed to be above politics. It has to be. And it should stay that way.” Vice President Joe Biden backed him up, saying Congress should do “as the Constitution requires” and advance the confirmation process, “even a few months before a presidential election.”

Justice Ginsburg also backed the Obama administration, arguing that “eight is not a good number for a collegial body that sometimes disagrees” and that the Senate, which was stalling, must vote on Obama’s nominee. “That’s their job,” she said in July 2016. “There’s nothing in the Constitution that says the president stops being president in his last year.”

Something is empowering the radical left to the point of blotting out everything constitutional, everything lawful and everything good about America and its history. News reporters, whose purpose is to find the truth and notify the people, are actually coaching radical liberals like Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on how to prevent the president from doing his constitutional duty. The speaker, whose purpose is to oversee constitutional lawmaking, is hinting, “We have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now.” Former Attorney General Eric Holder, whose purpose was to help the former president conduct his administration lawfully, is openly telling Democrats to—“at a minimum”—pack the court with additional (liberal) justices. First-term radical socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told liberals, “Let this moment radicalize you.”

As we said when liberals smeared Kavanaugh but were unsuccessful at blocking him, “[A]nyone who thinks the war is won is naive. In many ways, Satan won by losing—his grip on the left got tighter! And victory against the devil is always temporary. He is relentless. After a loss, he regroups for his next assault. He may lose a battle, but he never quits the war.”

This struggle for the Supreme Court of the United States is a war. And there is a force far beyond the ideology, corruption and power hunger that is motivating radical leftists and Democrats. That force is Satan the devil. He is real, and his influence is gripping this nation! He is working to corrupt it and then blot it out. He is spreading his spirit of hatred for what’s left of America’s good principles and biblical background. And he is using real people, in real ways, in real time.

Keep watching the Supreme Court! This will be important not only in terms of Republican-Democrat politics, and not only in terms of the short future of the United States as a nation. It is also important in terms of its interaction with the one organization that is giving America a warning, advocating God’s law, and prophesying the terrible consequences of sin on this country—and the hope for the future beyond that.

The Supreme Court will interact with God’s one true Church.

Amos 7:8 states, “And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more.” This is a prophecy about God sending His last warning through His Church to the nations that descended from His people Israel. It describes a measuring tool that God says He will use to measure our destruction. “And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword” (verse 9).

My father wrote in his Nov. 23, 2016, co-worker letter: “This [2016] election was prophetic! When there is a type of Jeroboam on the scene, then God will send the sword upon His people because of all of its sins. It’s because of America’s sins that it must suffer!”

Notice verse 10: “Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.” This is not just history about ancient Israel and God’s ancient work through an ancient prophet. This was preserved for thousands of years because it is a prophecy about modern Israel and God’s modern work through an end-time prophet!

“Bethel” means house of God. Amaziah is a priest of that house, yet he is working against God’s prophet. This means he is a minister inside God’s Church who is rebelling against and fighting God. “Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there: But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court” (verses 12-13).

My father has noted that the word for “king’s” in “king’s court” is a different Hebrew word than the word “king’s” in “king’s chapel.” So a better translation of “the king’s court” is “the kingdom’s court,” or as the margin of the King James Version renders it, “the house of the kingdom.” My father wrote in “Can President Trump Get Control of His Own Divided Government?” (August 2019), “[C]ourt can refer to an assembly of buildings, or an area where the law is taught and practiced and used.” My father believes that “the house of the kingdom” primarily refers to the United States Supreme Court.

“[I]f Jeroboam [President Trump] is going to be used to save Israel, he would need the law on his side. He wouldn’t be able to use the government like he needed to without the legal structure behind him. He needs that power. The leader of end-time Israel in Amos 7 has a lot of power, but he has had to fight to get that power and hold it” (ibid).

My father wrote in “Is America’s Supreme Court in Bible Prophecy?” (January 2019) that this “house of the kingdom” “is not a religious entity, it is something else: the nation’s house. It is not something that is following Jeroboam, yet it favors him. It is helping him in some way. What is this referring to prophetically? I believe this non-religious entity, the kingdom’s house, is referring to the United States Supreme Court.”

He also wrote in that article that Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation indicated that “God will likely see that President Trump has a second term. … It is clear why God had to intervene to save Israel. Had He not done so, these diabolical forces would prevail. In saving the nation, He also saved spiritual Israel, His Church.

“However, that saving is only temporary. The Amos 7 confrontation leads to the Amos-type being kicked out of the country! This is a prophecy of God’s Church being expelled from America! I cannot imagine God’s Church being cast out without approval from the Supreme Court. … I don’t doubt our message is one they will not like.”

What does the leader of the nation do with the support of this rebel priest and the “house of the kingdom”? Amaziah tells Amos, “O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there” (verse 12).

God’s Church proclaims His warning about our nation’s sins. That has never been a popular message: Not in Amos’s lifetime, not now.

Satan the devil and his demons are not only real, they are confined to the Earth and are on a spiritual rampage. Revelation 12:7-9 state that he was “cast out into the earth.” Since 2013, my father has been showing that this occurred in 1986. The bad news is that millions of demons are confined to the Earth and attacking God’s plan for human beings. This includes the nations God has worked with and most of all the Church that He is using. You can see their influence on your nightly news every day. People and entire nations are falling more and more into anti-God, anti-law, anti-logical thinking!

But there is good news. There is a reason the angels in Revelation 12 rejoice. Not only does God casting Satan down mean that they are free of his presence, but it also means his time is short: Jesus Christ is about to return and take His throne! He is returning to establish a new world government that establishes righteous laws, carries out perfect enforcement, and makes righteous rulings.

But back to the present: We don’t have much time. Satan is working urgently. So must those of us in God’s Church—and those who are hearing God’s message!

If you can recognize that there’s something far more than politics as usual going on in America’s government and especially regarding the presidency of Donald Trump and the justiceships of the Supreme Court, you have to act now. Start by studying the literature below, and compare them to what you are seeing in real life in real time—and what you’re about to see during and after the replacement of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the 2020 presidential election.
