March 2019 Trumpet issue now online

The following is from the Trumpet Brief sent out yesterday. These daily e-mails contain personal messages from the Trumpet staff. Click here to join the over 20,000 members of our mailing list, so you don’t miss another message.

Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry leads off the March issue with the cover article: “America Is Being Besieged Economically.” He writes: “Herbert W. Armstrong foretold the merger of two massive trade blocs—at America’s expense. That prophecy is being fulfilled this year!” He shows how the pending agreement between the European Union and mercosur will create the world’s largest trade bloc, and how America can be hurt by it.

Closely related is an article by Jeremiah Jacques and Andrew Miiller: “Preparing to Storm America’s Castle.” Russia and China are moving into the Caribbean Sea, an area vital to U.S. security. “Half of America’s seaborne trade passes through the Gulf” of Mexico, they write. “So a foreign power that controls the Caribbean could cripple the U.S. economy by restricting its access to oceanic shipping.” This issue’s infographic, “Choking Off America,” shows how vital the Caribbean is to America’s security.

You can read these articles and more online. But we would love to send you a free copy of the magazine. Also in this issue, Mr. Flurry challenges readers, “Are You Observing the Right Day of Worship?” “Most Christians have never studied why Sunday is their day of worship. If you are one of them, you are denying yourself special blessings from God!”

Britain voted to leave the European Union in June 2016, but it is having troubles negotiating its exit. In “Why Brexit Is Breaking Britain,” Europe correspondent Richard Palmer discusses why the process has been a shambles from the start. “On March 29, 2017, Mrs. May triggered Article 50, which started the clock on a two-year countdown to leave the EU,” he wrote. “Now the pressure was on to resolve a host of issues for which it had been relying on Europe for 40 years. If it wasn’t ready to stand on its own two feet when the two-year period was up, the nation would have to turn to the EU for help, and be vulnerable to European blackmail. But Britain immediately got busy wasting time.” Now those two years are nearly up, and it still has no clear view on how to leave the EU.

“When America retreats, chaos often follows. When we neglect our friends, resentment builds. And when we partner with enemies, they often advance.” So said U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in a speech at Cairo this month. Middle East correspondent Brent Nagtegaal wrote, “A speech announcing, in effect, ‘America is back’ should have reassured U.S. allies …. But the speech fell flat. … Because a dramatic shift has taken place in the Middle East—a shift specifically prophesied in the Bible.” His article “America Is Back … ing Out” shows how America’s withdrawal from Syria opens the way for Iranian dominance.

In “One Piece of a Frightful Economic Puzzle,” Tyrel Schlote discusses America’s optimistic December jobs report. While the creation of 312,000 jobs prompted great rejoicing in America, they are only one part of the economic picture. “Add a few more pieces to the puzzle,” he wrote, “and the real picture of America’s economy appears.”

How much of a difference can one person make? Jeremiah Jacques’s article “One Man Vs. a Dead River” proves it can be monumental. “Human beings killed the Kali Bein—then one tried to bring it back,” he writes.

Low back pain “has prevented 80 percent of American adults from being able to work or enjoy other activities.” Chances are, you’re one of them. If so, “Posture Up: Prevent Back Pain,” by personal trainer and certified holistic nutritionist Jorg Mardian, is for you.

Also in this issue, Christopher Eames looks at the latest research on Joshua’s long day in “‘And the Sun Stood Still.’” My Principles of Living piece, “Bring Sanity to Your Family Life” notes that “responsible parenting has never been so difficult”—and I show you how to get the help you need. And Richard Palmer’s Commentary, “A Glimpse Beyond the Known World,” shows your connection to the most distant object ever explored.

On another note: The Trumpet Hour this week includes:

  • A discussion with Andrew Miiller about the radicalization of the Democratic Party in America, based on recent presidential candidate rollouts and the policies they are advocating.

  • A discussion with Richard Palmer about a mirror-image trend in Europe: the rise of new political parties that are challenging the status quo and moving countries in a more conservative direction.

  • A report from Anthony Chibarirwe about harsh economic conditions and bad government policy in Zimbabwe provoking widespread protests, and what the ultimate solution to the people’s suffering will be.

  • And a Last Word about why a husband needs to put on “wife-colored glasses” from time to time.
