Wonder, Wonder!

God foretold a stunning court victory by His loyal remnant in this end time. This incredible miracle is a sign of terrible things to come in the immediate future.

The Prophet Habakkuk wrote an extremely specific book. He discussed four nations, two personalities and a legal battle. He described a double-wonder miracle that has already happened today. This miracle is a sign of what is yet to come as a fulfillment of Habakkuk’s prophecy.

God sent Habakkuk to deliver his warning just before Babylon destroyed Judah in the sixth century b.c. The temple was in a state of crisis. That time is a type of the time we are living in now.

“And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it” (Habakkuk 2:2). God tells us to run when we finally read and understand Habakkuk’s prophecy! The urgency of the age is clear.

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” (verse 3).

We can easily prove to you that the “appointed time” is now! God says He will fill us with His faith if we are living His way. This kind of unshakable faith will see us through the coming troubles. And the double-wonder miracle, once we understand it, should couple our faith with living hope.

A World on the Brink

This world is a horrifying nightmare. Look around and you will see turmoil and crises everywhere. Weapons of mass destruction are proliferating wildly, as are terrorist groups. Palestinian leaders have recently incited their people to carry out an onslaught of stabbings in Israel.

Where is this all leading? Here is what I wrote in my Habakkuk booklet: “The experts tell us that a nuclear winter will result from a nuclear war. That means the climate will be chilled because of a prolonged blockage of sunlight by dust clouds from the exploding bombs. Of course, there will also be heavy nuclear fallout. Men, animals and plants will be exposed to deadly radiation.”

The Prophet Habakkuk wrote about this nuclear winter. “When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops” (Habakkuk 3:16).

Habakkuk knew this vision wouldn’t come to pass in his lifetime, yet he was absolutely terror-stricken! God commands us to meditate on terror (Isaiah 33:18). We must face the stark reality of these waning moments before Jesus Christ’s return.

“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls” (Habakkuk 3:17). Only God could have foreseen a nuclear winter back when Habakkuk wrote this—2,500 years ago! God Himself inspired Habakkuk’s vivid, heart-stopping description. He gives us tremendous advance notice of world events and continually strengthens our faith.

A Double Wonder

In the midst of these dangerous days, God performs a double-wonder miracle for His loyal remnant.

“The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see. O Lord, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!” (Habakkuk 1:1-2). Habakkuk anguished as wicked men hijacked the temple.

God’s temple today is a spiritual temple. “And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord” (Ephesians 2:20-21). Just as in Habakkuk’s day, rebels have seized leadership of the temple—this time a spiritual temple, or God’s own Church.

“Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention” (Habakkuk 1:3). “There are” should be translated “there is he,” as the Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary brings out. One man is responsible for annihilating the spiritual lives of 95 percent of God’s people!

“Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth” (verse 4). Habakkuk is using legal terminology here. A wicked man opposed a righteous man in court. Both men had supporters who zealously battled for the cause. That recent court battle determined whether or not God’s work would survive! And that’s when the double wonder occurred.

“Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you” (verse 5).

In spite of the rebels and a corrupt court system, God gave His people a miraculous victory that ought to cause us to wonder wonder, as it says in the Hebrew. This was a double-wonder miracle! We won the rights to 19 works by the late Herbert W. Armstrong, all so we could give them away free to whomever wants to understand God’s truth.

When we see the astounding miracles that God performs for us, how can we not walk by faith and be filled with hope?

Dark Germany

Immediately after the double-wonder miracle comes to pass, a terrifying war machine comes on the scene once again. “For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs” (Habakkuk 1:6).

Just as Habakkuk specifically revealed two personalities warring in court over God’s truth, he also pinpointed the identities of four end-time nations. The Chaldeans are Germany today.

“Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god” (verse 11). Satan the devil will influence and direct the German leader to do unimaginably cruel things. The double-wonder miracle has already taken place. Dark Germany is coming fast!

Amazingly, America is facilitating Germany’s return to the warpath. German Torpedo pilots can now fly attacks with U.S. bombs more accurate than the atomic bomb, as long as they do it within the nato framework. It would be easy for Germany to use those bombs for its own harmful purposes instead. The nation that has already sparked two world wars is about to set the world on fire one last time.

Good news lies beyond the sudden rise of a revamped German war machine controlled by a great false church (Revelation 17). God promises to correct His people, both in His Church and in His chosen nations. However, in His wrath, God remembers mercy (Habakkuk 3:2). That is wonderful news!
