European Union Investigates Amazon

The European Union’s executive branch has launched an antitrust investigation on Amazon for its increasingly popular e-books.

The Commission’s top official on competition policy, Margrethe Vestager, fears that Amazon has created an environment preventing competition.

The investigation will focus on English and German e-books. It comes on the heels of an April antitrust investigation into Google for its android phones and Apple for its music streaming service.

Some analysts are concerned the Commission may be unfairly targeting large American companies with these antitrust investigations.
