FBI Behind Mysterious Surveillance Aircraft Over U.S. Cities

At least 50 aircraft are being used as part of a civilian air force operated by the fbi to surveil American cities and rural areas, the Associated Press reported yesterday.

The fbi has confirmed the widespread use of aircraft functioning under fictitious companies. Over a hundred flights have been made during the last 30 days through 11 states.

A federal budget document from 2009 mentioned that 115 planes were being used to support fbi surveillance operations against criminals.

However, the planes are now equipped with technology that may encroach on Americanā€™s privacy. The use of high-tech cameras and technology capable of tracking thousands of cell phones is raising speculation that the surveillance may extend beyond just criminal control.

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee warned that safeguards must be in place to protect the civil liberties of innocent Americans. The fbi said the planes are not being used for mass surveillance.
