Who will be the best leader for America?

Last Friday, the much anticipated jobs report was released. The official unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent in September. Both presidential candidates erupted with an explosion of soundbites—hardly any of them true.

President Obama: This is the best jobs report so far. It validates my approach. The economy is improving! Unemployment is down to the lowest level since I took office.

A bunch of half-truths and lies.

Presidential candidate Romney: This jobs report is terrible. The only reason the unemployment rate is falling is because discouraged workers are leaving the workforce. Elect me and I will fix this economy.

More lies.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls), the economy created 114,000 jobs in September. That is hardly good. It’s not even enough to keep up with population growth. Nevertheless, at least the economy didn’t lose jobs. But the reason the unemployment rate fell is because the bls went back and revised up its estimates of the number of jobs created in the past three months. The bls says the previous bad job reports were not as bad as initially thought after all.

But is this evidence that the current policies are helping the economy? Only if you are a presidential candidate seeking reelection.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics also calculates the labor force participation rate. This rate shows what percent of the total workforce is actually working. During the 2009 economic crisis, this rate plummeted as people lost their jobs. Since then it has continued to decline. America’s workforce is the smallest it has been since 1982! And that is despite all the population growth since then. According to the bls, when you factor in people who are no longer looking for work (due to discouragement, or early or forced retirement, etc.), the unemployment rate is actually a whopping 11 percent.

And oh—late in the day on Friday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture released its food stamp usage data. There are now 46,681,833 people reliant on food stamps—a new all-time record high. That is one in every seven Americans who are now relying on the government to eat. As economic blog ZeroHedge points out, the number of U.S. households taking food stamps rose by almost 100,000. Assuming two people per household, that means more people went on food stamps in the month than found jobs.

Does this sound like an economy that is on the verge of a recovery? Does this sound like an economy moving in the right direction?

On October 3, President Obama debated Mitt Romney for an hour. There was a lot of verbiage and snide accusations. But neither candidate was really interested in telling the American people the truth. Foreign Policy asks, can we have a third candidate?

[H]ow could we have both presidential candidates spend an hour talking about the economy and job creation without mentioning the loss of U.S. international competitiveness, the continuing chronic U.S. trade deficit, the off-shoring of U.S. jobs and technology, the low rate of U.S. investment compared to countries like China and Germany, and the abysmal state of U.S. infrastructure compared to other leading countries? How could there be a discussion of the economy without any questions about national priorities and without any comment on the impact of America’s role as the international hegemon and provider of global security on its ability to keep delivering the American Dream?

You want to know why neither candidate would touch these very real problems? Because despite their rhetoric, neither one has any answers.

The median household income in America last year was $50,054. That is $570 less than the median household income in 1989!

American families are making less money today than they were 22 years ago! Meanwhile, America’s national debt is skyrocketing, the budget deficit just hit $1 trillion again, Social Security is headed for bankruptcy, the dollar has been debased, the cost of just about everything has jumped dramatically, America’s education system is failing, families are falling apart at horrid rates, inner cities are crime-filled welfare centers, racial tensions are growing, jails are overflowing, drug use (legal and illegal) is at all-time highs, America has lost the war in Iraq and is losing in Afghanistan, and it can’t even maintain control of its own borders, where millions of illegal immigrants enter and exit at will each year.

In a recent poll, only 27 percent of Americans felt confident their children would be better off than them, according to the Financial Times (October 3).

No wonder people still vote for these lying politicians.

Voters want the prosperous America of yesteryear. They want their children to have a better life. They don’t want to face the hard reality that that America is gone and isn’t coming back anytime soon.

People want to believe the lie, so they vote for the liars.

America desperately needs new leadership. It needs incorruptible leaders who aren’t afraid of speaking the truth. It needs leadership that doesn’t care about votes. It needs a leader who will do what he says and make real changes that will actually benefit the people.

America won’t get that from either presidential candidate today, but thankfully, righteous leadership is coming to America—but not before a lot of very hard times first.

Mass Media Corruption

Two icons of the ‘free press’ admit their journalists are being corrupted by government interests.

You expect it of traditional dictatorships. It’s a practice that was rife in Nazi Germany—the government paying the media to promote its propaganda. But in America, bastion of the free press? Surely not!

Well, think again.

Hard on the heels of the New York Times openly and apparently unashamedly admitting back in July to mainstream stories being scripted by the White House, it is now revealed that “cnni has aggressively pursued a business strategy of extensive, multifaceted financial arrangements between the network and several of the most repressive regimes around the world which the network purports to cover. Its financial dealings with Bahrain are deep and longstanding,” according to Glenn Greenwald of Britain’s Guardian.

Being shopped by traditionally corrupt regimes is one thing, but within the nation that has stood as a beacon to democracy, these disclosures, in particular the reports of Washington buying off mainstream media in America, show a new low in government-press relations.

“Full disclosure would mean giving a rival something to campaign for (or against), so it’s understandable for a candidate to want to carefully control his or her message. Where it becomes shameful is when the media willingly goes along” (NaturalNews, July 27).

More concerning on a grander scale are the rampant accusations of major networks being paid off by national governments to prevent the exposure of the truth concerning government abuses in some of the world’s real hotspots. For example, at a time when accurate reporting from such volatile regions as the Middle East is vital to inform the public of the realities of the fallout from the so-called “Arab Spring,” increasingly it appears that the news from that region is being sanitized.

Concerning cnn in this respect, the Guardian, Washington’s Blog and Eurasianet.org have all publicized concern at cnn’s corrupting journalistic practices. As these reports have been collated into one article by NaturalNews, we quote them as the main source for this story.

One whistle-blower “notes, the network aggressively pursued—and then came to rely on—revenue from several Middle East regimes, in order to remain viable, especially after the 2008 economic recession, ‘which caused the network to suffer significant losses in corporate sponsorships.’

“The result: The employment of journalistically dubious ways to earn revenue from the very governments the network was created to cover” (ibid, October 4).

According to the same source, another concerned journalist observes that “China and many other foreign, authoritarian regimes also pay cnn and other mainstream networks to run flowery, flattering propaganda pieces. And what’s more, she says a number of reporters and producers at the network have privately complained about the paid-sponsorship of programming, but believe they can’t complain publicly out of fear they will be blacklisted within the news industry and branded troublemakers” (ibid).

The point is that these stories only serve to add further to the continual leakage from major media sources that their reportage is increasingly being manipulated by both government and big business.

Increasingly it appears that the age of the free press is dead.

The need for objective, unbiased analysis of current events was never greater than in today’s world in its increasing state of great global disruption.

Chinese Hackers Breach White House Military Network

Hackers connected to China’s government infiltrated a U.S. government computer network containing some of Washington’s most sensitive information, the Washington Free Beacon reported on September 30.

U.S. authorities officially won’t blame China for the attacks, but experts say the hack was the handiwork of Chinese military cyberwarfare specialists tied to a unit called the 4th Department of General Staff of the People’s Liberation Army. Since the hacked system is used for America’s nuclear commands, this cyberattack is considered one of Beijing’s most belligerent ever against the U.S.

The hack was carried out in early September by the spear phishing method, in which disguised e-mails ask recipients to disclose confidential information. Security officials are still investigating the incident to determine the specific level of damage that resulted from it, and some officials remain concerned that the attackers were successful in breaching the classified information. If they are right, and Beijing’s attack was successful, China could use the information in future conflicts to locate the president for targeting purposes, to disrupt the president’s strategic command of U.S. forces both in the country and abroad, and to intercept presidential communications.

The incident underscores the abysmal failure of the Obama administration to confront China about its cyberespionage.

Former McAffee cyberthreat researcher Dmitri Alperovitch said this about China’s incessant attacks on U.S. intelligence:

[T]he Chinese have an aggressive goal to infiltrate all levels of U.S. government and private sector networks. The White House network would be the crown jewel of that campaign, so it is hardly surprising that they would try their hardest to compromise it.

China’s belligerency is nothing new, but Beijing’s rapidly expanding technological reach now allows it to extend that belligerency in new directions, up to soaring new heights and down to murky new depths. Washington’s failure to take decisive action against Beijing’s acts of cyberwarfare is naive, but for a nation with a broken pride in its power, it is not surprising. Watch for China’s bellicosity to continue to calcify, and for America’s pride in its power to continue to erode.

Violence at the Temple Mount

JERUSALEM—Hundreds of Arab worshipers threw stones at Israeli police officers near the Western Wall of the Temple Mount this past Friday, marking an uptick in violence during the Jewish fall holy day festival. Just after Muslim prayers concluded Friday, swarms of Arabs on the Temple Mount began stoning the officers stationed below, prompting them to storm through the Mughrabi Gate and fire several stun grenades to disperse the violent crowd.

“Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites of Israel Shmuel Rabinovitch expressed shock following Friday’s violent demonstration, assessing that it was meant to prevent Jewish worshipers from praying in the area during Sukkot,” the Times of Israel reported.

One day prior, Israeli officers again dodged stones lobbed by Arab worshipers as the officers arrested a few activists who were trying to get onto the Mount after it was closed for the day. With chants of “Allahu Akbar,” dozens of Muslims attempted to attack the incoming visitors before the police intervened.

While minimal to no injuries occurred, the echoes of the stun grenades throughout the Old City on Friday were a chilling reminder of the current tension that still hangs over the city of peace.

The Temple Mount has long been a source of contention between Jews and Palestinians. Violent protests have broken out several times in previous years due to Palestinian resentment over “Jewish conquest” of the area. Three years ago, Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal said, “The Israelis want to divide al-Aqsa Mosque …. They want to hold their religious ceremonies in the mosque … in preparation for demolishing it and building their temple there.”

In 2000, what became known as the second intifada broke out after Ariel Sharon, then prime minister of Israel, visited the Temple Mount.

While the escalation of Jewish-Palestinian hostility can almost be expected during the Jewish holy days, the current state of these two camps fighting over Jerusalem cannot last for long. Zechariah 14 warns of a time when Jerusalem will be violently split in half, at which point half the city shall “go forth into captivity” by some violent struggle. All of this tension is building toward a confrontation that will result in a violent split of Jerusalem, with the Temple Mount at the center of controversy.

As Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry wrote in 2006, Jerusalem can be used as “the thermometer” for end-time events. When Jerusalem falls, it will trigger a chain reaction of events that will violently affect the whole world, but will ultimately restore peace to the city.

Parents, Wake Up: Teen Sexting Linked to Risky Sexual Behavior

Parents, Wake Up: Teen Sexting Linked to Risky Sexual Behavior

One out of every seven Los Angeles high school students with a cell phone has sent a sexually explicit text message or photo. According to a recently published study, those same students were more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior.

The study, published in the journal Pediatrics, uncovered that the L.A. teens who had sent pornographic texts (known as sexts) were seven times more likely to be sexually active than those who never sexted.

Reuters reported on September 18 that Eric Rice, a social network researcher from the University of Southern California who led the study, said, “What we really wanted to know is, is there a link between sexting and taking risks with your body? And the answer is a resounding yes.”

Rice’s findings are based on surveys taken among 1,839 students in Los Angeles High Schools, most of who were Latino. Seventy-five percent of them owned a cell phone that they used regularly.

A similar study of Houston Texas high schoolers released earlier in the summer revealed that one in four students had sent a nude photo of themselves either by sexting or by e-mail. The same conclusion was drawn in that study. The teens sexting were involved in risky sex behavior.

Rice told Reuters that the rate of teen sexting in Houston may have been slightly higher than in Los Angeles due to demographic differences, but the results of the studies are consistent.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also sponsored a similar study that discovered that just over 40 percent of teens with a cell phone had engaged in sexual activity. Only about two thirds of them used protection.

Jeff Temple, a psychologist and women’s health researcher from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, summing up the results of all three surveys told Reuters, “Somewhere in the middle is probably a pretty good estimate of what’s going on nationally.” This is clearly a huge problem.

Temple’s research also shows that the girls who send naked pictures of themselves are more likely to engage in risky sex, to have multiple sex partners and to use alcohol or drugs before sex.

What these studies show should be a screaming a loud alarm to all parents. Basically, teens are living their online life offline! A teen willing to text or e-mail a nude self-portrait is not sending it as a joke. She is likely also engaging in risky sexual behavior.

Parents who allow their children to have cell phones, especially smart phones, must work to be aware of how their child uses the cell phone. A smart phone is more like a computer and can be hacked as easily as a computer. In January, the New York Times said that cell phone hacking would be the “scourge of 2012.” Any naked photo sent somewhere electronically can end up on the Internet. Any teen sexting invites predators and bullies into her life.

There are also legal ramifications associated with sexting. Any student who receives a sexually explicit text could be charged with receipt of child pornography.

Any parent desiring to give his or her teen cell phone usage, but also desiring to protect his or her child from sexual disease and sexual harm, must also take the time to monitor how the phone is used. Parents should not fear establishing rules for cell phone use. Work with your cell phone service provider to obtain content filters, usage controls and location and monitoring controls. Of course the handiest tool open to all parents is spur-of-the-moment phone checks.

Parents, take on the responsibility to not only teach your teen the proper use of sex within marriage, but also the serious dangers and ramifications of sexting. Never forget that you have the right and the responsibility to take a cell phone away if your teen is using it improperly.

Write for or download a copy of The Missing Dimension in Sex. This book provides you with a simple-to-understand wealth of information to help you protect your child from the sexual dangers so prevalent in our sex-crazed, high-tech world.

Politician Warns America Soon to Be Vulnerable to Foreign Invasion

Without substantive economic fixes of a magnitude far greater than those being espoused by either presidential candidate, the United States could even lose its sovereignty.

American businessman and former third-party presidential candidate Ross Perot is refusing to endorse either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama in this year’s election battle, saying that neither candidate has a viable debt reduction plan.

“We’re on the edge of the cliff, and we have got to start fixing it now. Otherwise, we’re leaving a disaster to our children’s and our grandchildren’s future,” Perot said in an interview last week with USA Today’s Richard Wolf.

The national debt has quadrupled in the 20 years since Perot first started sounding his warning about government spending. Now that the national debt has exceeded the gross domestic product, the government has to print more and more money as overseas investors become less and less willing to lend more.

Perot is now warning that without substantive economic fixes of a magnitude far greater than those being espoused by either presidential candidate, the United States could even lose its sovereignty.

“The last thing I ever want to see is our country taken over because we’re so financially weak, we can’t do anything,” he said.

The sobering reality of America’s current plight is that the strongest military in the world is of little value if the country does not have the economic heft to maintain it. As Greece, Rome and the Soviet Union have already found out, once the economy collapses, military prowess disintegrates and the empire falls into ruins.

Consider the frightening scenario Trumpet columnist Robert Morley wrote about in his February 2011 article “America: Only Two More Years”:

One day, America will wake up to the news of a failed U.S. government debt auction. Lenders will have had enough. Though many people will be oblivious for a short time, those in the know will rush to the stores to buy everything they can get their hands on—diapers, alcohol, beans, bullets. They will be the lucky ones. Some will turn to gold and silver, but that will only help for so long. Shortages will soon be reported and become endemic.Attempting to calm markets, the Federal Reserve will announce another round of “money printing,” but this time it will have the opposite effect. The dollar will plunge in value, the Dow Jones will plummet and officials will lock down stock markets.Without access to debt, Wall Street will experience a chain of unstoppable domino failures. Consumer spending will sharply contract. Import prices will soar. Sales will dry up, and indebted corporations will stop sending out paychecks. America will grind to a halt.

Mainstream politicians and economists like Ross Perot and Niall Ferguson are starting to wake up to this reality. Once the economy crashes and the dollar losses its value, national security will disintegrate and there will be little to stop a foreign power from coming in and taking over.

This is exactly what the Bible prophesies will happen! To find out more about these prophecies, read Herbert W. Armstrong’s classic The United States and Britain in Prophecy.
