Expert: EU Strengthens Germany’s Global Power

A German think tank exposes the real purpose of the European Union.

This magazine has long maintained that the European Union is but a cloak for the promotion of Germany’s drive for world power. That claim is underwritten by an expert on the process, as revealed in a recent release from

We reproduce here our own translation of a summary of these findings published August 15 under the heading “Requisites for German World Power”:

BERLIN (own report)—The stabilization of the crisis-shaken EU is an “indispensable condition” for German world political power, an expert has judged in a present analysis on the long-term tendency of Berlin’s foreign policy.Accordingly the Bundesrepublik has been able to strengthen its global position since 1990, in a far different fashion from the times of historic confrontation, since it is now independent from the United States military-politically and can count on a close cooperation with Russia. Finally, with its new “Shaping Power Concept,” it has even opened up an option to an independent worldwide power politic.Even so, Germany’s position depends “essentially” on the success of the EU. Actually this is already happening through the by-far-greater power methods over which the EU, by comparison with Germany, is in charge. The author of the analysis observes that the benefits of the EU for Germany are all the greater since Berlin has succeeded via the euro crisis to soar—contrary to France and Great Britain—to an undisputed hegemonic power within the EU.

We will publish a more detailed analysis of this latest report from German Foreign Policy as soon as a full translation is to hand.

In the meantime, our publication He Was Right! would make a timely read in relation to this latest revelation from Berlin.

Egypt: Morsi Sheds His Moderate Cloak

Morsi finalizes Egypt’s radical transformation.

Give Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi credit. On Sunday, as the world watched the closing ceremony of the Olympics and debated the nomination of Paul Ryan as the Republican candidate for vice president, Morsi quietly orchestrated perhaps the most significant development in Egypt since the assassination of Anwar Sadat in October 1981.

He completed Egypt’s transformation into an Islamist state.

First, Morsi announced that he’d “retired” a handful of key leaders within Egypt’s military establishment. The men included the defense minister, the army chief of staff, and the commanders of the navy, air defense and air force. These men were holdovers from the administration of former President Hosni Mubarak, and key figures within Egypt’s military establishment, the Supreme Council of Armed Force (scaf). They were pro-Israel, pro-Western, and key intermediaries between Egypt and America.

More importantly, these men were political and ideological counterweights to Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. Ever since Hosni Mubarak’s ouster in February 2011, we have been assured by Western experts that as long as the scaf held key positions within Egypt’s government, there was no reason to fear Morsi and the Brotherhood. That sounded logical.

Now these bulwarks are gone.

The men fired on Sunday have already been replaced. No one seems to know too much about this new cadre of leaders, except that they were handpicked by Morsi (and no doubt the Muslim Brotherhood). Some of the snippets of information we do have don’t bode well. Gen. Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi, Egypt’s new defense minister, for example, is reported to be either a member of the Brotherhood or have close ties to the Brotherhood.

Whatever the details, one thing is sure: Morsi has radically limited the influence of his opponents!

So much for Egypt’s “democratic” revolution.

Morsi’s second decision was as dramatic and far-reaching as the first. On Sunday, he also nullified the constitutional declaration made by the military shortly before he took power that gave the scaf additional powers and severely limited presidential authority. Morsi then replaced that constitutional declaration with a declaration of his own, one that equips Egypt’s president with wide-ranging legislative and executive powers, as well as a leading role in drafting the new constitution.

Egypt now belongs to Morsi and the Brotherhood.

You watch. The task of writing Egypt’s new constitution will now undoubtedly be led by an individual faithful to Mohammed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islamist ideology.

This is a coup,” lamented Middle East expert Barry Rubin. “Morsi is bound by no constitution. He can do as he pleases unless someone is going to stop him. And the only candidate—the military—is fading fast, far faster than even we pessimists would have predicted.”

On Sunday, Jerusalem Post columnist Caroline Glick wrote that “today Morsi completed the Egyptian revolution. Egypt is now an Islamic state. Its leaders drink from the same well as al Qaeda, Hamas and all the rest. Egypt, with its U.S. armed military, has reemerged after 30 years as the greatest military threat that Israel has ever faced.”

Remarkably, both these radical developments aren’t even the most significant news to come out of Egypt this week.

Perhaps the most important development came Tuesday, when Mohamed Gadallah, Morsi’s chief legal adviser told an Egyptian newspaper—no doubt at the president’s behest—that Morsi is currently “studying” the possibility of revising the 1978 Egypt-Israel peace treaty. (Yes, this contradicts Morsi’s many promises that he would respect all international treaties signed by Egypt.)

One can’t emphasize the significance of this development enough.

More than anything else, Israel’s survival as a sovereign country depends on Egypt’s willingness to uphold the 1978 Camp David Accords. As Stratfor ceo George Friedman once observed, “The only thing that could threaten the survival of Israel, apart from a nuclear barrage, would be a shift in position of neighboring states. [And] the single most important neighbor Israel has is Egypt (June 19, 2007; emphasis added).

Now Egypt is seriously considering gutting the Camp David Accords.

This is the context in which we need to watch events in the Sinai Peninsula. Under the Camp David Accords, Israel agreed to withdraw troops and citizens from the Sinai in return for peaceful relations with Egypt and the promise that Cairo would guarantee safe access to the Red Sea and restrict the number of Egyptian troops present in the region.

It appears Morsi wants to renege on these promises. According to Gadallah, the changes Morsi is considering will allow Egypt to “implement its full sovereignty over the Sinai Peninsula.”

This could be huge. The call for complete sovereignty over a demilitarized region like the Sinai should set off some disturbing alarm bells. On March 7, 1936, Adolf Hitler delivered a speech in the Reichstag in which he announced that “Germany no longer feels bound by the Locarno Treaty.” Established in 1925, Locarno delineated postwar territorial boundaries in Europe. After he renounced Locarno, Hitler dispatched troops to retake the Rhineland. He then took Austria, then the Sudetenland, then Poland.

We all know what happened next.

Watch Morsi closely. And don’t be surprised if very soon he publicly calls for the revision of the Camp David Accords. Right now he’s laying the groundwork. The Muslim Brotherhood is openly hostile toward Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel and no doubt has a strategy for destroying it. Moreover, as radical Islam’s presence increases in Egypt, and especially in the Sinai, it’s possible Morsi and the Brotherhood might exploit it as a ruse to militarize and establish full sovereignty over the Sinai.

This wouldn’t be too difficult. First, all Cairo would have to do—and in fact already has done—is loosen security in the Sinai and allow it to become an Islamist terrorist hotbed. Such a terrorist encampment would undoubtedly get Israel’s attention, and likely cause it to demand that Cairo take a tougher approach with terrorists. Next, as part of a seemingly altruistic effort to assuage Israel’s concerns over the presence of Islamist terrorists in the Sinai, Egypt could ask Israel to renegotiate the Camp David Accords to allow the Egyptian Army to assume a greater presence in the Sinai. Finally, under the political cover provided by the now-revised, internationally accepted Camp David Accords, Cairo could set up its military on a large scale in the Sinai.

Voilà, the Sinai would belong to Egypt!

The presence of Egypt’s military in the Sinai would effectively give Morsi and the Brotherhood control over Israel’s entire southern flank. And not just Egypt. Morsi has already reached out to Iran. This relationship will continue to develop, especially as Morsi and the Brotherhood continue to gain unilateral control over Egypt. As the Iran-Egypt axis continues to develop, and Bible prophecy says it will, then Tehran will also benefit if Egypt takes hold of the Sinai Peninsula.

Continue to watch Egypt closely. It appears Mohammed Morsi is becoming increasingly willing to shed his moderate cloak and reveal himself for what he really is. That is, a devoted Muslim Brotherhood member and an anti-democratic, anti-Israel, anti-Western, radical Islamist determined to preside over an Islamist renaissance in Egypt, the establishment of Egypt as an Islamist state—and ultimately the conquering of Jerusalem!

These are deeply alarming developments for Israel, for the West, for the international community—and for you.

Dispute With Japan Brings China and Taiwan Closer

More than 100 people gathered outside a Japanese government office in Taiwan on Wednesday. They were there to protest Tokyo’s plans to nationalize a set of islands controlled by Japan but also claimed by Taiwan and China.

The islands, which are called Senkaku in Japanese and Diaoyu in Chinese, have long been a source of tension in the region.

Wednesday’s protest in Taipei came as a group of activists from Hong Kong stopped in waters off Taiwan to stock up on supplies before sailing to the disputed islands to assert China’s claim to them.

A spokesman for the activists said they would try to land on the islands to claim sovereignty for China, but that Japanese government vessels would likely stop them.

The protests were staged on the 67th anniversary of the Japanese surrender to the Allied forces.

China and Taiwan are increasingly moving closer toward reunification. This territorial dispute offers these Asian neighbors common ground that could be exploited for the reunification project.

“How could anyone fail to see that Taiwan is destined to become a part of mainland China?” wrote Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry back in 1998. Since then huge strides toward reunification have taken place. This territorial dispute may become another step toward that reality.

Teach Your Children About Money or You Will Regret It

Teach Your Children About Money or You Will Regret It

Many parents are failing to educate their children about money. Three in 10 parents never talk to their children about money, or have had only one big talk with them, the Journal of Accountancy wrote August 9.

The report’s authors reveal that on average kids are 10 years old before they get their first money talk!

If you are one of these parents, start teaching your children about money before it is too late.

A 2005 survey found that “one in five teens don’t know that interest must be paid on borrowed money. Fewer than a third of teens know how to budget their money. And only 36 percent know how to open a savings account.” These are skills that children, especially teens, need.

The National Financial Literacy Commission offers four tips to help your children develop critical skills and reach life goals. But it is up to you parents to get your children started on the right financial footing.

Start early. As soon as children are able to express a want, discuss basics like delayed gratification that are the foundation for budgeting and saving for a goal. Require children to save some of their … money earned in after-school jobs. Give them small jobs to earn an allowance to pay for toys or other wants. Make saving fun by giving them a grocery list, and have them clip coupons and comparison shop by reviewing store fliers. Split the savings with them to reward their effort.Speak in their terms. A child might not care about money for college and may be more interested in money to buy a toy or spend with their friends. Create teachable moments around things your children care about. Also, show them the statement for their college savings account to build an understanding of compound interest and saving toward a long-term goal. The real learning will occur when your child tries to figure out how to earn and save for a toy or other item you decide not to purchase for them.Repeat often. The more you discuss good financial habits, the more likely your child is to make them a part of their daily life. During dinner, talk about saving for a big purchase, such as a family vacation, and how it might affect the budget. Show them your pay stub to talk about taxes and saving for retirement, and review their savings account and college account statements with them.Walk the talk. No matter what you say to your children about money, your actions are even more important. If you cave in easily when they make a fuss over a toy at the store, you will have difficulty convincing them to delay gratification and stick to a budget.

That fourth tip is especially important. Parents with financial problems have a good chance of producing children with financial problems. Even if you don’t have financial problems, act now to make sure your children don’t either.

If you want to learn how to take control of your money, read Solve Your Money Troubles! and The Financial Law You Can’t Afford to Ignore, in that order. For some practical ideas about how to teach your children about money, read “Do Your Children Know How to Handle Money?” by Andrew Locher.

Why Is the Government Offering Free Sterilizations to 15-Year-Old Girls?

Why Is the Government Offering Free Sterilizations to 15-Year-Old Girls?

One of the most grotesque provisions of Obamacare

How far off the moral rails is America’s present government taking this country? Here is a grotesque, enraging example.

Remember when Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi pitched the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act—aka Obamacare—by saying, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it”? Well, it passed, and now we’re finding out.

Hold on to your seat.

Can you stomach free sterilizations for 15-year-old girls?

Section 2713 of the Affordable Care Act, enacted in March 2010, listed several services that American health insurance plans must “provide coverage for and shall not impose any cost-sharing requirements for.” Among them were unspecified “additional preventive care and screenings” for women. Just what that care would include was to be determined by an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services.

To decide what “additional preventive care” meant, the hhs commissioned the Committee on Preventive Services for Women of the Institute of Medicine for recommendations. In July of last year, that committee advised that this federal mandate include “the full range of Food and Drug Administration-approved contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and patient education and counseling for women with reproductive capacity.” Its report defined “women with reproductive capacity” as including those “from the time of menarche to menopause.”

Menarche. As defined by the National Institutes of Health in the U.S., this is girls around age 12. Now eligible for free provision of the “full range” of federally approved contraception—including sterilization.

We are talking about the government mandating that insurance companies pay all costs of teenage girls and even younger to receive tubal ligation surgery or surgical implants, rendering them incapable of ever bearing children.

hhs adopted the committee’s recommendation a month later, with one slight change: adding the word “all” before the phrase “women with reproductive capacity.” Presumably, they wanted to close a potential loophole in case anyone tried to make any exceptions. Like for young teen girls. ran an excellent article last Friday about this unbelievable provision in the Obama administration’s health-care statute, which as of two weeks ago is law. It examined state laws on the age of consent for sterilization, and noted that Oregon law designates the age of informed consent as 15. “Under Oregon law, girls from 15 years of age and up are given complete control over whether to be sterilized or not,” cnsnews explained. “The parents or guardians of a minor girl—between 15 and 18—can neither grant nor deny consent for a sterilization.”

Sterilization is effectively permanent. It is at least 98 percent effective. A woman who wants to reverse the procedure must undergo a more extensive surgery, and the success rate is low.

What were legislators in Oregon thinking when they gave a 15-year-old girl the power to make that life-altering decision—without even telling her parents?

And what was the federal government thinking when it forced insurance companies to pay for these surgeries—without even putting an age limit on them?

The law says these girls are under the age of consent to even have sex. Yet somehow they are mature enough to decide, by themselves, that they will never want children?

This 15-year-old girl who wants to be sterilized—wouldn’t any authority in her life who cared for her be naturally inclined to tell her that such a drastic move was a bad idea? What kind of person would cave in and tell her to go ahead with it if she feels it’s best—let alone actually encourage someone that young to be sterilized?

But these folks have gone way past that. They have made it law that the procedure is free for that girland on top of that, they have decreed that her parents shouldn’t need to know about it, and cannot intervene if they do find out!

When cnsnews tried to pin down politicians and government employees to comment on whether free sterilizations for 15-year-olds were appropriate, they got stonewalled. Speaker Pelosi peevishly implied that anyone concerned about the idea was inappropriately inserting religion into a policy discussion. “You know what, I told you before, let’s go to church and talk about our religion,” she said. “Right here we’re talking about public policy as it affects women.”

Sorry, but these people are the ones pushing their agenda with religious zeal. Unconcerned about public opinion or backlash, they are undermining parental authority and manipulating impressionable young people. They are forcing insurance companies to support something that these companies may well consider morally abhorrent. They are compelling all insurance holders to pay for these procedures in the form of higher premiums.

All this in order to force their extreme views while euphemistically calling it “preventive care for women.”

The Institute of Medicine report boasted about sterilization’s advantages as a contraceptive since it doesn’t rely on “user compliance” and is more cost-effective than long-acting but non-permanent methods. In recommending that sterilizations be free to women, it cited one study that found that “when out-of-pocket costs for contraceptives were eliminated or reduced, women were more likely to rely on more effective long-acting contraceptive methods.” “The elimination of cost sharing for contraception therefore could greatly increase its use, including use of the more effective and longer-acting methods, especially among poor and low-income women most at risk for unintended pregnancy,” the report said.

If you’re looking for the cheapest, most potent and foolproof way to prevent people from having children, nothing beats sterilization. And when you make it free, more women choose it. It’s a no-brainer for people who see no reason a 15-year-old shouldn’t get sterilized.

These are the same people who work to keep it legal to abort a baby simply because of its sex, who fight to preserve the practice of partial-birth abortion, and who oppose legislation to protect newborns who somehow manage to survive abortion. This is the administration headed by a man who argued for abortion by saying that if his daughters were to “make a mistake” and get pregnant, “I don’t want them punished with a baby.”

When moral absolutes are cast aside, then all kinds of “solutions” to the problem of teenage pregnancy open up.

Iran’s Nuclear Program Intended to ‘Finish Off’ Israel, Says Hezbollah M.P.

Iran’s Nuclear Program Intended to ‘Finish Off’ Israel, Says Hezbollah M.P.

‘The entire equation in the Middle East will change.’

Hezbollah Member of Parliament Walid Sakariya said on Tuesday that Iran’s nuclear weapons program is intended to obliterate Israel.

During an interview broadcast on Lebanon’s al-Manar tv station, the retired general said that when Iran acquires nuclear weapons, it will serve not just Iranian interests, but also those of Syria—chief among these being the annihilation of the Jewish nation.

“The entire equation in the Middle East will change,” Sakariya said. “This nuclear weapon is intended to create a balance of terror with Israel, to finish off the Zionist enterprise, and to end all Israeli aggression against the Arab nation.”

Iranian authorities generally maintain that Tehran’s debated nuclear program is intended only for nonviolent purposes, but Sakariya’s comments offer a glimpse into the true nature of Iran’s nuclear ambitions. As the M.P. said, the “entire equation” of the Middle East is rapidly changing, and the shifting paradigm leaves Israel increasingly isolated in a rapidly radicalizing Middle East. To understand who the Jewish nation will ultimately turn to for protection from the multiplying perils, read Hosea—Reaping the Whirlwind.
