You know what? We’re completely unqualified to be parents.

Abc News reports on an emerging trend in “education” that represents a new low in parenting. It’s aptly called “unschooling.”

The reality is, this is merely the most extreme example of what has been the general trend in parenting for the last few generations. Many parents are increasingly uncomfortable with being authority figures in their children’s lives, and the kids are basically left to figure things out on their own.

The idea that a child’s best education can be found by being a slave to his natural impulses dooms that child to a small, self-absorbed life dominated by trivialities.

It used to be common sense, but today the wisdom in the Proverbs is being forgotten: “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child,” and “a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame” (Proverbs 22:15; 29:15).
