India and China Train Together to Fight Terrorism

The militaries of the world’s two most populous nations are cooperating. What does this portend?

The two largest militaries in the world have taken another step toward interoperability. On December 6, China sent nearly 130 troops to the Indian province of Karnataka to begin its second-ever round of joint military exercises with the Indian Army. The Economic Times reports that these exercises are focused primarily on counterinsurgency and counterterrorism operations.

This current round of joint counterterrorism training, which is to last eight days, was scheduled last year just after India and China completed their first round of joint military exercises near the Chinese city of Kunming.

The primary objective of these exercises, according to Indian Major General V.K. Narula, is “to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two countries and their armies.”

He went on to state that in these exercises the two countries would try “to remove the communication barriers that largely occurred during the first leg of the military exercises.”

The risk of terrorist attacks is increasing worldwide, and both India and China are seeking to use military cooperation to remedy that trend.

In talking to reporters, officials on both sides did make it a point not to mention the recent terrorist attack in Mumbai so as to not aggravate relations with Chinese ally Pakistan. The fact that these anti-terrorist exercises were still held in the wake of the Mumbai attacks, however, shows that China also values its alliance with India highly.

As terrorist attacks and financial woes multiply, this Sino-India alliance is bound to take on more and more global significance.

Plain Truth editor in chief Herbert W. Armstrong taught for years until his death in 1986 that biblical scriptures such as Ezekiel 38 and Revelation 9 reveal that a 200-million-man army will come out of Asia to fight against a coming United States of Europe. The rising trend of cooperation between India and China is laying the foundation for future interoperability between the militaries of the world’s most populous nations.
