Politicians Must Be “Put in Their Place,” Says Archbishop
Politicians must be “put in their place,” a Roman Catholic archbishop said this week, condemning the ruling Socialist Party in his native Spain.
In a radio interview, Fernando Sebastian of Pamplona said Catholics should confront the Socialist “cultural revolution” in Spain.
The Catholic News Agency reported (emphasis ours):
Archbishop Emeritus Fernando Sebastian of Pamplona said Catholics in Spain should confront the “cultural revolution” that is being carried out by the Socialist Party in the country by proclaiming God.
In an interview on cope radio, the archbishop said, “Today in Spain Catholics need to be aware that we are capable of sustaining a face-to-face discussion with the message of the culture of the Socialist Party which is seeking to promote a cultural revolution. “We are not the opposition party,” he said, “but rather the Church of Jesus.” ”Fortunately our faith does not depend on politics,” he continued. Politicians must be “put in their place” and not be allowed to legislate whatever they want.
The Trumpetdrew attention to the Vatican’s efforts in the run-up to the recent Spanish elections to oust the Socialist Party from power. Those attempts ultimately failed. But the Spanish archbishop’s recent comments indicate the Catholic Church will continue its attempts to steer Spain’s politics.
This is one more indication of the willingness of the Vatican to get involved in European politics and influence Catholic voters and politicians. Watch for the trend to intensify.
