British Nuclear Deterrence—Sponsored by Germany?

Germany might offer Britain financial support for its Trident nuclear deterrence program, the Telegraph reported on Wednesday.

• Trident is the United Kingdom’s only nuclear weapons program: It consists of UK-designed warheads on U.S.-designed Trident ii missiles launched from one of four 30-year-old Vanguard-class nuclear-powered submarines.

The replacement Dreadnought-class submarines and new nuclear warheads desperately need funding. Providing it would make Germany seem like a very close friend of Britain.

• However, Bible prophecy warns that Britain should not trust Germany.

The Telegraph quoted one “well-placed source” as stating Germany wanted “to better integrate itself into the existing British and French nuclear deterrents,” as an alternative to developing its own nuclear weapons due to “wartime guilt” from World War ii.

This sounds less like “wartime guilt” than an attempt to work around the 1975 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the 1990 Treaty on the Final Settlement with Respect to Germany, in which it is not allowed to possess weapons of mass destruction.

• According to the same source, Germany has “very strong interest” in having Europe’s two current nuclear powers, Britain and France, “extend their capabilities.”
• Germany already hosts U.S. B61 nuclear bombs on its soil under a controversial interpretation of the nato nuclear-sharing agreement.

Ostensibly, Germany wants to support Britain’s nuclear program to bolster Europe’s defense against Russian aggression at a time when the U.S. seems unreliable.

• Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. intelligence agencies believe Russia could wage a small-scale attack on a nato nation as early as this fall.
• The latest cause for questioning U.S. reliability came earlier this month, when the Trump administration appeased an enemy, North Korea, at the expense of a mutual defense treaty ally, South Korea, by canceling the counterattack phase of the two nations’ “Ulchi Freedom Shield” military exercises and postponing “Ssangyong” amphibious exercises that had been scheduled for next month.

Should Britain trust Germany, the power that has tried to conquer it twice in the past 110 years? Ezekiel 23 and Hosea 5 prophesy that it will, to its shame and peril.

One verse might even indicate that British nuclear weapons will be gifted to Germany. Hosea contains “latter days” prophecies from God condemning the modern descendants of Israel for their “workmen” making “calves,” “molten images” and other “idols.” Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry writes in Hosea—Reaping the Whirlwind:

It is well known that England excels in technical ability. One of its greatest achievements has been the development of nuclear energy for domestic and military purposes. Could this be Britain’s calf? Could Britain think its nuclear power will get it through another war? … England relies on its “craftsmen” for protection rather than God. They worship their technical ability—they “kiss the calves.”

German investment in Britain’s nuclear program could ultimately lead to the very technologies the British currently rely on (rather than relying on God) being compromised or even co-opted by an enemy-turned-ally-turned-enemy.
