Germans Frustrated With Their Leaders

Fifty percent of Germans see politics as one of the country’s biggest problems, second only to economic woes, according to a Forsa Institute survey published Tuesday. That’s an all-time high in the survey, up from 36 percent in 2005 and 41 percent in 2024.

Bible prophecy warns this dissatisfaction will bring about a German king of “fierce countenance,” not unlike Germany’s last dictator.

The attitude of the average German is more open than it might seem to such a radical and revolutionary political change.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s disapproval rate hit 78 percent in an August 14 insa survey of 1,003, indicating that he is one of the least popular chancellors since 1949.

While support drops for Merz and other mainstream politicians, many Germans are turning to drastic alternatives. Recent voter polls indicate:

  • 21 percent still support Merz’s center-right Christian Democratic Union-Christian Social Union alliance.
  • 12 percent support the center-left Social Democratic Party (a rival to the center right and a current coalition partner).
  • 14 percent support the center-left Greens.
  • 12 percent support the leftist Die Linke.
  • 28 percent support the Alternative für Deutschland, a 13-year-old former fringe group that has become Germany’s most popular party.

Even if Merz leaves office, the German people won’t be satisfied with any of the current alternatives. According to Forsa, as reported by Bild:

  • 84 percent of Germans think the political parties are indifferent to their issues.
  • 56 percent believe no single party can fix Germany.

It’s a no-win situation. To whom will Germans look for a solution?

Daniel 8:23 prophesies that a “king of fierce countenance” will rise in Europe in the end time.

  • As Gerald Flurry wrote in 2024, “I believe recent events in Germany will, in one way or another, open the door for this strongman. This is a prophecy we really must pay attention to.”

This data shows that Germany’s political scene is vulnerable to hijacking by such a “king of fierce countenance.” To learn who this man could be and what his rise will mean in your life, read A Strong German Leader Is Imminent.
