China Expands Nuclear Arsenal by 20 Percent in One Year

China added 20 percent more nuclear warheads to its arsenal last year, bringing the total to 600, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (sipri) wrote in its annual report published yesterday.

  • China’s arsenal of nuclear weapons is expanding more quickly that that of any other nation.
  • It is adding approximately 100 new warheads per year.
  • The nation will likely possess 1,500 nuclear weapons within a decade.
  • China has around 350 new or nearly completed intercontinental ballistic missile silos.

New nuclear arms race: sipri’s report noted a slight decrease in the combined global nuclear inventory due to the world’s two largest nuclear powers—Russia and America—dismantling a small number of retired warheads. But Russia still has 5,459 warheads, while the United States possesses 5,177. Both are upgrading and modernizing their massive arsenals, just as China is undertaking its rapid buildup.

At the same time, the world’s other nuclear nations—the United Kingdom, France, India, Pakistan and North Korea—also “continued intensive nuclear modernization programs in 2024,” the report stated.

sipri said these developments show that “a dangerous new nuclear arms race is emerging.”

“[W]e see clear trend of growing nuclear arsenals, sharpened nuclear rhetoric and the abandonment of arms control agreements,” said Hans M. Kristensen, associate senior fellow with sipri’s Weapons of Mass Destruction Program.

Tools for extermination: After World War ii, Winston Churchill conveyed the nightmarish potential of nuclear weapons:

Mankind has never been in this position before. Without having improved appreciably in virtue or enjoying wiser guidance, it has got into its hands, for the first time, the tools by which it can unfailingly accomplish its own extermination.

Bible prophecy reveals that the current creation and modernization of nuclear arsenals will lead to an unbelievably grim future. Yet behind this bad news lies a far more glorious news.
