Report: Russia Heavily Reliant on North Korea for Ammunition
Russia has been heavily reliant on North Korea for vast supplies of ammunition, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
Although a small nation, a large proportion of North Korea’s resources are devoted to the military sector, allowing it to contribute significantly to feeding the Russian war machine.
- The Open Source Centre tracked 64 train shipments over 20 months carrying nearly 16,000 containers filled with millions of artillery rounds from North Korea into Russia.
- Shipments included rocket launch systems, long-range artillery, shells and missiles.
- In some cases, Russian artillery units are entirely dependent on ammunition provided by North Korea.
- North Korea has also supplied at least 11,000 soldiers for Russia in its war on Ukraine.
Hugh Griffiths, former coordinator of the United Nations panel of experts that monitor sanctions on North Korea, said:
North Korean artillery shells are a strategic imperative. Without them, Putin would have lost his war in Ukraine. Russia simply doesn’t have the industrial capacity to produce the ammunition it needs. It depends on North Korea.
The war continues: As the United States discusses a ceasefire deal in the region, Russia is still warring, and nations like North Korea are helping Russia to keep fighting.
This past Sunday was one of the deadliest days for civilians in the Russia-Ukraine war in months, with almost 40 people killed and 141 injured in various civilian targets.
Asian alliance: The Bible prophesies of a coming seismic Asian alliance, which it refers to as the “kings of the east.” The strengthening bond between Russia and North Korea signals that this alliance is rapidly forming, not only politically and economically but also militarily.
