Discussing America’s Election

  • Yesterday was Election Day in America, and the results are still unknown! At least six states haven’t finished their counts and it could be an ugly fight. The Supreme Court may have to weigh in on legal battles over mail-in ballot deadlines, opening the door for protests from those, like Nancy Pelosi, who say Amy Coney Barrett is “an illegitimate Supreme Court justice.”
  • Foreign nations are watching America’s electoral confusion with interest. German news media are calling President Donald Trump an authoritarian who must be opposed at all costs. Meanwhile, the Chinese yuan experienced its worst fall in years on fears that Mr. Trump will be reelected.
  • Black Lives Matter activist Cori Bush was elected Missouri’s first black congresswoman, and some are already predicting that she will become the fifth member of a radical “Squad” comprised of representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.
  • Oregon became the first state to decriminalize hard drugs like cocaine and heroin; while New Jersey, South Dakota, Montana and Arizona passed laws legalizing recreational marijuana.
