According to a University of Toronto study, 2.2 million Americans were hospitalized in 1994 due to serious adverse reactions to medicinal drugs (adrs). Of that number, approximately 106,000 cases were fatal, meaning adrs rank somewhere between the fourth and sixth leading cause of death in the U.S.
