Is President Obama Purging the Military of Dissenters?

The commander for the largest U.S. military base in Japan was fired on Friday. Col. Eric Tilley was relieved for “lack of confidence” after an inquiry into alleged misbehavior related to gambling, according to a press statement.

Details surrounding his firing are scarce. U.S. Army Japan spokesman Maj. Kevin Toner told Stars and Stripes via e-mail that “it would be inappropriate to make public the allegations because the investigation did not lead to findings of criminal misconduct.

Normally a dismissal of a colonel would not make such big headlines, but Colonel Tilley’s release comes at a time when the Obama administration is accused of systematically removing officers that are unsympathetic with its agenda.

So far this year, nine generals and flag officers have been terminated by the Obama administration. World Net Daily calls this an “extraordinary number.” The site reports that over the past five years, close to 200 high-ranking officers have been fired—some under very suspicious circumstances.

Several of the high-ranking officers dismissed were vocal critics of President Obama’s policies. “There is no doubt he (Obama) is intent on emasculating the military and will fire anyone who disagrees with him” over such issues as “homosexuals, women in foxholes, the Obama sequester,” retired Army Maj. Gen. Patrick Brady told wnd.

Another source told the news agency, “They are purging everyone, and if you want to keep your job, just keep your mouth shut.” wnd continues:

Retired Army Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin, who was a founding member of Delta Force and later deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence under President George W. Bush, says it is worrying that four-star generals are being retired at the rate that has occurred under Obama.”Over the past three years, it is unprecedented for the number of four-star generals to be relieved of duty, and not necessarily relieved for cause,” Boykin said.”I believe there is a purging of the military,” he said. “The problem is worse than we have ever seen.”

Three of the nine high ranking officers were fired after either criticizing what happened at Benghazi or giving testimony that contradicted the official White House account.

Three of the top commanders in the region at the time of the Benghazi attack have been dismissed: U.S. Army Gen. Carter Ham, who headed the United States African Command; Rear Adm. Charles Gaouette, commander of the aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean Sea; and Major General Baker, who commanded the Joint Task Force-Horn in Djibouti, Africa.

Several of the other six generals and flag officers fired were allegedly critical of other Obama policies such as military cuts, the removal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and America’s new policy on Iran. Others were allegedly fired for sexual misconduct, or adultery—dismissal for which has become increasingly rare since President Bill Clinton’s affair.

What angers many observers even more is that while so many of America’s military leaders are being fired, the Obama administration has failed to hold a single Obama administration official accountable for a string of scandals: the Benghazi cover-up; the Fast and Furious scandal; the fbi admitting it uses surveillance drones over U.S. soil; the Justice Department secretly seizing the records of more than 20 Associated Press phone lines in what was called a “massive and unprecedented intrusion”; the Justice Department illegally monitoring the phone lines and e-mails of Fox News reporter James Rosen; the National Security Agency conducting illegal, covert surveillance programs that violate the Fourth Amendment, keeping phone and Internet records of millions of Americans with the full cooperation of nine major Internet companies, or spying on America’s allies—supposedly without the president’s knowledge.

And in light of revelations that the irs was used to target President Obama’s political adversaries, it adds a lot of credence to the charges that a military purge is occurring.

The atmosphere within the senior ranks is becoming so bad that Major General Brady says members no longer feel prepared to fight or have the desire to win.

The National Journal reported November 1 that low moral isn’t the only problem. Resentment is so high that some members have reportedly considered trying to “take out the President” and stage a coup.

Something deadly dangerous is happening in America.

The Obama administration is showing itself extremely intolerant of dissent. And the president has made it clear that he will use the full force of government to attack opposition groups that defy his agenda. The military is just the latest victim.
